Wendell E. Disbrow

Wendell E. Disbrow, age 86, of Tecumseh passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Lenawee Medical Care Facility.  He was born April 12, 1931 in Jasper to the late Clark Leroy and Nola Mae (Baker) Disbrow. On February 18, 1983, he married Marjorie Smith, she preceded him in death on March 22, 2006.

Wendell graduated from Adrian High School in 1949 and attended Adrian College and Indiana University. He worked for 22 years as a Chief Engineer for H.W. Tuttle Company, where he had two patents. He also worked for 30 years with Addison Products Company as Assistant Director of Advanced Engineering and Research. Wendell retired from the Knight Refrigeration Company as a National Service Manager. Wendell was a member of the former St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Tecumseh and served on their Vestry. He was now a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Adrian. Wendell was a former member of the Tecumseh Club, Tecumseh Country Club, where he served on the board, Treasurer of the Tecumseh Senior Center, the Eagles, Elks and a former treasurer of the Adrian Jaycees. He had coached Little League baseball, was a Boy Scout Master, Troup 73, Assistant Scout Master and a former District Commissioner, Lenawee District. Wendell also had served on an advisory committee with the Tecumseh School Board. He had played trumpet for the Bill Jenkins Combo Dance Band and the Adrian City Band. Wendell was proud to have played semi-pro football for the Adrian Big Reds. He also loved to golf, bowling and softball.

Wendell is survived by his sons, Randy (Vickie) Disbrow of Gaines, Mich. and Rick Disbrow of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother, Doyle (Joanne) Disbrow of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three grandchildren, Daria Disbrow of Gaines, Mich., Danette Disbrow of Clio, Mich., and Kent (Renee) Disbrow of Montgomery, Ala.; and one great grandchild, Kyler Disbrow. 

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rena and three brothers, Rex, Leroy and Robert.

Funeral services for Wendell were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at Christ Episcopal Church in Adrian with Pastor Susan Shaefer.

Visitation was held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. 

Memorial contribution may be made the Tecumseh Senior Center.
