Wilkins records perfect game
While Tecumseh’s varsity girls bowling team had little problem recording a 3-0 Southeastern Conference shutout victory against Monroe, the Indians boys didn’t fair as well and lost 21-9.However, during the competition, Tecumseh senior Cody Wilkins rolled a perfect 300 game to give the Indians something positive to cheer about.Tecumseh girls improved to 2-0 in the SEC while the boys evened out to 1-1.In addition to his perfect game, Wilkins also tossed a 249 game in the second singles match. Justin Murphy threw two games of 181 and 197 for the Indians while teammate Tevon Hastings rolled a 200 game. Jarrett Oldeck bowed games of 193 and 190 for Tecumseh. The Indians participated in the Bangor John Glenn Holiday Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 13, and the girls placed third while the boys placed ninth.Courtney Herron and Wilkins were named to the All-Tournament teams.On Monday, Dec. 15, Tecumseh’s bowling teams traveled to Adrian and both teams lost to the Maples.Tecumseh’s girls lost 20-1/2 to 9-1/2 while the boys lost 16-14.It was the first regular season match loss for the varsity girls team since the program’s beginning in 2005.The girls got off to a slow start in the baker games, missing some spares and falling behind 10-0.In the first team game the struggles to knock down spares continued and the Indians only took two points and lost totals giving the match to Adrian. Tecumseh recovered in the second team game, beating Adrian 914-779. Kayla Wild bowled a 263 in the last game while Brianna Wiemer had 188 and Taylor Cook a 182.Last year Tecumseh’s girls advanced to the state Division 2 semifinal but lost to Bay City Western.“I know we’re going to get back there,” varsity girls coach Ken Richard said during a post-season interview. “We’re going to surprise some people. I think they’re not ready for us but we’ll be ready for them.”For the varsity boys, Tevon Hastings led the way for the Indians with a 203 game. Tecumseh’s Evan Eldred threw a 201.
