Wimple says she will put families, seniors, and communities first

To the Editor,I’m Sharon Wimple, and I’m running to be the next state representative for House District 57.I’ve spent my career working with families and senior citizens, and I know many are struggling. I believe it’s time to turn Michigan around by supporting local businesses, ensuring local governments can provide the services we rely on, properly funding our schools and creating a fairer tax code. Many senior citizens are struggling to make ends meet because of the retirement tax. I’ll work to repeal this tax and restore tax credits and deductions like the Homestead Property Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit and the $600 per-child deduction. In order to be successful, our children need the best education. I’ll fight to restore education funding to our schools so students aren’t sitting in overcrowded classrooms that lack the resources they need to prepare for college, a trade school and the workforce. We’ll put more people back to work by supporting our local businesses. If voters send me to Lansing, I’ll work to create Michigan jobs for Michigan workers by giving local businesses the first chance at state contracts that will keep jobs in our communities, instead of sending them overseas.I’ll work to see that we can keep and attract new businesses by ensuring our local governments receive their fair share of state revenue sharing dollars. This funding helps pay for police, fire and other services that businesses and our families rely on.Senior citizens helped build our state; our families, workers and businesses are the keys to strengthening our economy; and our children are our future. If I’m the next HD 57 representative, I’ll put the needs of seniors, families, children and communities first when I cast my vote.Sharon WimpleTecumseh
