Writer disputes claims against GOP on issues of abortion, military

To the Editor,Thank you Chairman Ted Dusseau and the Executive Committee of the Lenawee County Republican Party for your recent statement objecting to being represented by Michigan U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters’ filibuster vote on S. 1881 in which they gave support to taxpayers’ funding of Planned Parenthood.Carol Timm’s letter of September 23 [Daily Telegram], “Well, Well,” attempts to discredit the Republican Party for its position on life. The recently released videos expose Planned Parenthood associates aborting, dismembering and selling baby body parts for profit (illegal in America). Ms. Timm states that, “the Hyde Amendment of 1977 prohibits federal funding for abortion except in cases of rape, incest and jeopardy of a mother’s life.” That hasn’t stopped Planned Parenthood. Taxpayers are paying $500 million annually to keep this corrupt organization running. The letter states that GOP leadership belittles rape and incest victims. The facts show that under the Democratic leadership, which she supports, rape kits have sat on the shelves for years, with welfare programs taking precedence over law enforcement and prosecution. Not bringing the perpetrators of rape and incest to justice is what belittles rape and incest victims. Advocating for innocent life does not belittle anyone. The writer praises the “education” that Planned Parenthood provides, as “a huge deterrent to choosing abortion.” The real goal has been revealed: more abortions, more money. The letter implies that an imperfect unborn baby (“having no chance of being a walking, talking miracle”) is undeserving of life.Ms. Timm accuses the GOP of not caring for the poor. The truth is that caring for human life begins at conception. Advocates of the unborn child also have a moral compass for all life — giving freely of their own means rather than funding those in need with taxpayer money. The GOP supports an economic climate in which citizens can rise above their hardships, rather than being held hostage through dependence on the government. The letter implies that the GOP advocates war and harm to our soldiers. The fact is the GOP advocates funding the military for the equipment and technology necessary for safety and victory. Under the Obama Administration, our soldiers have been severely underfunded and appropriate armor for land vehicles and other equipment has been denied. The GOP places value on all life.Ronda KeckSand Creek
