Zorn has plan for road funding without tax, fee increases

To the Editor,There is a clear difference between candidates in Senate District 17.According to MLive, a tell-it-like-it-is news publication connected with Bridge Magazine, Dale Zorn is the only candidate that has a clear plan to repair roads. It does not surprise me when given the fact Mr. Zorn has brought an additional $11 million to Monroe County roads, without creating any new tax or fees. Since being a county commissioner, Zorn has been a strong advocate for roads.MLive reported and I quote, “Zorn said he would use more money from the general fund (as he did not just in Monroe County but statewide) rather than creating new taxes or fees on residents or businesses to pay for better roads.” Zorn also said he would dedicate one cent from the 6-cent sales tax to fund roads. That would raise about $1.2 billion a year — the amount many say is needed to fix Michigan’s roads.”MLive goes on to say “Zorn’s opponent, Democrat Doug Spade, offers no concrete position on how to fix Michigan’s roads or any other policy issue,” end quote.Further, when the MLive Truth Squad sent repeated requests over several days to Spade asking how he would fund repairs to Michigan’s roads, Spades reply was, and I quote, “I just don’t have the time,” he told the Truth Squad. It is clear Spade does not have a plan for Michigan. However, Dale Zorn not only has a plan, but is willing to talk about it. Zorn is a real person, and he is the right person to be our next senator.Thank you.Reda BinieckiMonroe
