CLASSES HAVE now formed for the free 12-week health seminar with the Transitions Lifestyle System.  Classes will teach about low glycemic index eating, exercise, stress reduction, supplementation and more.  The seminar will be held every Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Newsong Connection Center, 133 E. Chicago Blvd., downtown Tecumseh.  The April 21 topic will be on stress and weight gain.  The guest speaker will be Lisa Winkler of Serenity.  She will discuss how to reduce stress relief by using sensory stimulation.

THE TIPTON CONGREGATIONAL Church will hold its swiss steak dinner and bake sale on Friday, April 25 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the church, 9240 Tipton Hwy., Tipton.  Carryouts will be be available beginning at 5 p.m.  Ticket prices are $8 for adults and youth, $4 for children ages 5 to 10 and no charge for children under age 5.

It is time once again for the River Raisin Watershed Council’s Spring Adopt-A-Stream Search.  Volunteers are needed to help the council monitor the health of the river by collecting insects from sites across the River Raisin Watershed.  By participating in the event, volunteers learn the importance of insects as indicators of stream health and how they are associated with the quality of the water and habitat they live in.

The stream search is set for Saturday, April 26, from 9 to 2 p.m. with three meeting locations: Adrian College, Mill Pond Park in Saline and Monroe Drain Commission.
The council’s Bug ID Day will be held Saturday, May 10 are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Adrian College.

The searches and Bug ID Day are open to the public and are family events.  Adults and kids alike can learn more about the river while having a good time.  Volunteers make it possible to collect year after year of valuable data that allows careful tracking of what is happening in the river.

THE MACON UNITED Methodist Church, 11964 Macon Hwy., Macon, will hold a spring rummage and bake sale on Thursday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Nature Conservancy in Michigan is looking for volunteers to help remove invasive species at the Ives Road Fen Preserve near Tecumseh.  If you are over the age of 15, you can join the Habitat Restoration Team.  The dates to volunteer are on the following Saturdays: April 5, April 12, April 26, May 3, May 10, May 17 and May 31 and also Monday, April 21.  The time of the event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please remember to bring boots and a sack lunch. The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center and the U-M Department of Otolaryngology are offering free  throat cancer screenings and smoking cessation counseling by appointment on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Taubman Center in Ann Arbor.

Symptoms of throat cancer include a sore throat or hoarseness that won’t go away as well ad difficulty swallowing.  

Exams take less than 45 minutes.  Refreshments and further information will be provided.

The keynote speakerwill be Professor Janet E. Smith. Smith is the chair of Life Ethics at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Detroit, and has been a visiting Professor at Ave Maria College, Ypsilanti. She will speak on the topic of bioethics.

The MOMS Club of Tecumseh will hold an upcoming monthly meeting on Thursday, May 15 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the basement of the Tecumseh Public Library.  
The club is specifically for mothers in Tecumseh and surrounding areas that are at home during the day, whether they work from home, work part-time or stay-at-home.
The MOMS Club is a group specifically for the mother-at-home, all meetings and activities are held during the day and mothers may bring their children. Activities include playgroups, field trips, park days, community service projects, mom’s night out and so much more.

A bicycle tour to benefit Associated Charities of Lenawee County has been organized for May 17. The first annual Associated Charities Donate and Cycle Tour will begin and end at Tecumseh High School, 740 Brown St - Tecumseh MI 49286.

The "ACDC Ride" will offer riders three choices: 17 miles, 40 miles or 70 miles. The entry fee includes a t-shirt, ride support and a make-your-own sundae bar at the end of the ride. Helmets are required.

Registration is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the high school's south parking lot. To guarantee a t-shirt and enough ice cream, or to request more information, riders are encouraged to email ACDCRide@hotmail.com to pre-register, or call 517-605-9910. Volunteers to help run the event are also welcome!

The Friends of the Tecumseh District Library will hold a book sale on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, 215 N. Ottawa St., Tecumseh.

The best buy of the sale are young adult and children’s books.  Every book is 25 cents. All books are categorized from read aloud through primary and intermediate and beyond.
May books are in like-new condition.

As usual, hard cover books and trade paperbacks are $1 each; regular paperback books are 50 cents each.  Music CDs are $1 paper CD.  Books on CD are $3.  Music cassettes are only 10 cents each.

Feature and coffee table books are available at special prices.  Also included in the sale are sheet music at 10 cents each, computer software, vintage books, pamphlets, videos and more.

All proceeds go to support the Tecumseh District Library.

St. John's Lutheran Church, at their new location of 3448 N. Adrian Hwy., in Adrian, presents a new concert series called "Tonic For The Soul."  The free inaugural concert will be on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. and will feature professional organist, Lance Luce.  Lance has played at Radio City Music Hall in New York as well as the Fox Theatre and Ford Field in Detroit.  He will be playing Broadway and pop music.
