A bicycle tour to benefit Associated Charities of Lenawee County has been organized for May 17. The first annual Associated Charities Donate and Cycle Tour will begin and end at Tecumseh High School, 740 Brown St - Tecumseh MI 49286.

The "ACDC Ride" will offer riders three choices: 17 miles, 40 miles or 70 miles. The entry fee includes a t-shirt, ride support and a make-your-own sundae bar at the end of the ride. Helmets are required.

Registration is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the high school's south parking lot. To guarantee a t-shirt and enough ice cream, or to request more information, riders are encouraged to email ACDCRide@hotmail.com to pre-register, or call 517-605-9910. Volunteers to help run the event are also welcome!

The Friends of the Tecumseh District Library will hold a book sale on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, 215 N. Ottawa St., Tecumseh.


The best buy of the sale are young adult and children’s books.  Every book is 25 cents. All books are categorized from read aloud through primary and intermediate and beyond.
May books are in like-new condition.


As usual, hard cover books and trade paperbacks are $1 each; regular paperback books are 50 cents each.  Music CDs are $1 paper CD.  Books on CD are $3.  Music cassettes are only 10 cents each.


Feature and coffee table books are available at special prices.  Also included in the sale are sheet music at 10 cents each, computer software, vintage books, pamphlets, videos and more.


All proceeds go to support the Tecumseh District Library.

St. John's Lutheran Church, at their new location of 3448 N. Adrian Hwy., in Adrian, presents a new concert series called "Tonic For The Soul."  The free inaugural concert will be on Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. and will feature professional organist, Lance Luce.  Lance has played at Radio City Music Hall in New York as well as the Fox Theatre and Ford Field in Detroit.  He will be playing Broadway and pop music.

A free will offering will be collected and ALL the proceeds will go to Hospice of Lenawee.  Call the church office with questions at 265-6998.

CLASSES HAVE now formed for the free 12-week health seminar with the Transitions Lifestyle System.  Classes will teach about low glycemic index eating, exercise, stress reduction, supplementation and more.  The seminar will be held every Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Newsong Connection Center, 133 E. Chicago Blvd., downtown Tecumseh. This Monday’s guest speaker will be Natalie LaRoe from Fitness 4 You.  The topic will be “Staying on Track.”  LaRoe will speak on fitness and wellness.  Free giveaways will be presented.  


During Promenade on Saturday, May 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Newsong Connection Center, there will be free one-on-one consultations.  The consultations offered will be in regards to health and weight management.  Free samples will be available.  Snacks will be provided.

The Tecumseh V.F.W.  Ladies Auxiliary Post 4187 will have dinner at the Country House Restaurant on M-52 in Tecumseh. Tuesday, May 20th. at 6:00 p.m.  For those who would like to carpool, meet at the upper parking lot of the V.F.W. at 5:30 p.m.  R.S.V.P as soon as possible by calling Barbara Cummings at 423-6375.  After dinner we will go back to the VFW Hall for the installation of officers.

LENAWEE COMMUNITY Mental Health Authority celebrates May as mental health awareness month with the following activities:
• May 12 — Local Walk  A Mile In My Shoes: walk from the Humans Services Building to the Old Courthouse in downtown Adrian to bring attention that people will mental illness and developmental disabilities deserve respect and kindness.
• May 14 — State Walk A Mile in My Shoes Rally in Lansing: Beginning at 12:30 everyone will gather on the lawn and steps of the state capitol to let legislators know support is needed for mental health issues.
• May 17 — Safe Kids Child Passenger Seat Check and carnival at Wal-Mart.  
May 21 — Path to Recovery and Independence Conference: Keynote speaker will be Michelle Rose Armstrong.  She will talk about how one can recover from mental illness and leave a productive life.  The conference will begin at 10 a.m. at the Community Mental Health office.  The Lori Sallows Anti Sigma Award will also be given.  Reservations are required.

FREE PROSTATE Cancer Screenings will be held available Thursday, June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the New Hope Outreach Clinic, 229 Chapin St., Ann Arbor.

To schedule a free screening session call the UM Cancer AnswerLine at 800-865-1125.  Registration is required but drop-ins are welcome.  Space is limited.  Men who have not had a PSA test within the past year are eligible.

The event is sponsored by the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, Department of Urology, Geriatrics Center and the New Hope Outreach Clinic.

Lenawee County Family Researchers will have an end-of-year potluck dinner and meeting on June 10 at 6:30 in the Community Room of the LISD William J. Ross Education Service Center at 4107 N. Adrian Hwy. (M52).   This is north of Valley Rd. and across from Johnson’s Sporting Goods.  Bring a dish to pass, a drink of choice, and place setting.
Speaker for the evening will be Ray Lennard.  He will speak on “Lenawee Over There:  Lenawee and World War I.”  Ray Lennard has always had a passion for military history.  He’s been a Civil War Re-enactor for 17 years.  He is President Pro-tem of the Lenawee County Historical Society and President of the Lenawee County Civil War Round Table.  He is currently Curator of the William G. Thompson House Museum & Gardens in Hudson.  
He has also worked as a Reference Librarian at the Jackson District Library, and at Henry Ford Museum as an intern working on the Fire Fighting Collection and at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library.

THE LENAWEE HUMANE Society will hold a pet wash on Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the shelter, 705 W. Beecher St., Adrian.
Pet wash is $10, flea dip is $8 and a nail trim is $7.  All proceeds will be used to care and feed the animals in the shelter.
