John Westcott Underwood

John Westcott Underwood, age 81, of Tecumseh, died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at his home, under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born December 20, 1930, in Tecumseh to George V. and Helen M. (Westcott) Underwood Sr. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He was married to Gloria J. Noe, and she survives. John was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. He was the owner-president of Underwood Chevrolet-Buick in Clinton. In 2007, he was proudly honored to be recognized and given an award by the General Motors Corporation for 50 years as a Chevrolet dealer, 1957-2007. He was a member of the Michigan Auto Dealers Association, the National Auto Dealers Association and had served on numerous boards and committees at General Motors.In addition to his wife, Gloria, he is survived by a daughter, Mary E. (Tom) Cooper of Tecumseh; two sons, Duane J. (Beth) Underwood of Statesville, NC., and Jason W. (Alicia) Underwood of Sarasota, Fla; and a brother, Gary (Susan) Underwood of Marshall, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George V. Underwood Jr. and Louis E. Underwood Sr.; a sister, Gloria J. Fetkenhier; a nephew, Louis E. Underwood, Jr.: and a niece Linda Lou Underwood.A Funeral Liturgy was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh with Fr. Daniel Wheeler as celebrant. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 2-6:45 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church where a Vigil Prayer Service was held at 7 p.m. Visitation was also held on Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church from 10-10:45 a.m. A family prayer service with Fr. Dan Wheeler presiding was held at 10:45 a.m. followed by the funeral liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Military Honors were conducted by Tecumseh American Legion Underwood Orr Post No. 34 and Tecumseh V.F. W. Post No.4187.Condolences may be sent to the family at Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or the Lenawee Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
