Tecumseh High School third at own Invite

THS junior Chelsea Caterina placed third in the all-around at Tecumseh’s Annual Gymnastics Invitational last Saturday.

Sturgis picked up another Tecumseh Gymnastics Invitational title on Saturday, Dec. 13, while Northville finished second and Tecumseh third.

The Indians totaled 118.775 points while Sturgis had 137.075 and Northville 133.525.

Chelsea Caterina led the Indians during the day, finishing third in the all-around with 35.45 points. Sturgis' Kaitlin Abbs won the all-around with 35.85 points while Northville's Chloe Prestey was second with 35.65. Tecumseh's Brea Tomford placed eighth in the all-around with 32.525 points.

Sturgis' Abbswon on vault with 9.25 scored while Northville's Prestey was second with 9.2.Caterina placed third in the event with 9.1.

Abbs also won on bars with a score of 8.8 while the Indians had Caterina place second with 8.625. Prestey was third with 8.45. Tomford placed eighth for the Indians.

On beam, Northville placed first with Prestey scoring 9.3. Sturgis' Jana Blodgett was second with 9.1 while Caterina placed third with 9.075 for Tecumseh.

In the final event, floor, Sturgis' Abbs and Blodgett each scored 8.75. Abbs was awarded the win after going to the all-around scores. Northville's Prestey tied with Sturgis' Mary Boyd with each scoring 8.7. Prestey was awarded first place aftergoing to the all-around scores. Caterina placed fifth for the Indians with 8.65scored. Tomford was 10th with 8.45.

East Lansing finished fourth with 111.550 points and was followed by East Kentwood (111.0),Adrian (106.725), Coldwater (99.3750) and Jackson (99.75).

“I'm very happy,” said Tecumseh coach Jennifer Poston. “We only had our first meet on Thursday and were still right on track with where we were.”

Tecumseh open edits season with a tri-meet split, defeating Jackson Northwest but losing to Jackson County Western. The Indians scored 119.075 while Western had 123.95 and Northwest 89.10.

“We lost three big seniors last year and our girls stepped right up with no problems. So, I'm really happy with how they did,” said Poston.

A highlight for the Indians was having Caterina tie the school record on vault with a score of 9.025. She also placed first on bars with 8.6, and beam with 9.225 and placed second on floor with 8.5. Tomford won the event with 8.65.

Caterina also finished with the school's third best all-around score ever with 35.35. Tomford scored 32.125. She had 7.825 on beam, 7.8 on vault and 7.2 on bars.

Sailus scored 8.45 on vault.
