Thanks Brown, Spade for having best interest of children in mind

To the Editor,

Now that I’ve had time to think about my experience at the Capitol in Lansing on May 22, for the Star Power Rally, I’d like to voice my thoughts.  I was with the Lenawee County group with Tecumseh and Adrian parents.  I appreciated the time and the answers that Senator Cameron Brown and State Representative Dudley Spade were able to provide us even as limited as they were.  I appreciated Senator Brown’s honesty about our budget deficit and hope that we can find some way to work through these early education needs amongst the many, many other pressing issues in the State of Michigan.  I have always been impressed with State Representative Dudley Spade’s attentiveness.  I believe these men have our children’s best interest and I have high hopes for our children because they are our future.  I want them to be well prepared to jump into this busy world!

I only feel pressure now about pre-school since it seems that kindergarten and the whole curriculum is changing and the kids need to be more prepared to even just start their first year of school.  I plan to work with my 3-year-old as best I can and know that she will be able to take advantage of our local “Lenawee’s CHILD” group as long as they are still funded.  I really do appreciate the program.

I do adore this area, and my hope is that our economy will come around.  I especially have high hopes for Lenawee County.  It seems like we’ve been hit especially hard.  I’m willing to do my part to help make changes if I can.

Again, a sincere thank you to both of these men.  I’m aware of how difficult it is to spare the time when meetings are going on and you are expected in many different places at one time.  So, from one mom, thank you!

Confused by letter...

With all due respect Ms. Rowe, the rendition of the visit with our legislators turned out nothing like what you have written.

Rep. Spade sat down with each member from Lenawee County and listened to their concerns and had dialog with each  and every member present.  He met us at his assigned time and in the preset location.  He addressed each issue with compassion and intelect which is what anyone could ask from their representative.

On the other hand, Sen. Brown elected to NOT show up at the assigned time or location that was predetermined between his staff and Star Power organizers.  When he was corraled walking across the lawn 90 minutes after he was supposed to meet us, he said he would only talk to the person in charge and wasn't interested in talking to his constituents from Lenawee County.  He also said that he didn't know a thing about the meeting that was arranged through his office.  He was annoyed with us and kept making excuses why he couldn't talk with us.  It was a VERY disappointing interaction.!

I feel it important that the residents of Lenawee County understand the stark differences between the people that represent them.  To see the article above closely compares these two men is disheartening.    Sen. Brown is running for the office of the "Michigan Secretary of State".  Is this who we want in that office.  This republican thinks not!

My letter was a simple

My letter was a simple "thank you" to both of our representatives.  Yes, Sen. Brown was distracted, but we have NO idea what he was told.  He eventually did talk to some of us and yes, it was late.  Maybe there was some miscommunication somewhere about our scheduled time.  I will personally ask him.  I also witnessed  Sen. Brown walking around looking for the Lenawee County group once he was told that a bunch of us were at the bounce houses.

And, I also said that Rep. Spade was very attentive, as he has always been in my experience.

My question is, "Now what will they do with our concerns?"  I think THAT is what we should look for.

spade and brown

If you think spade and brown have the best interest of kids in mind, you must still be back in the 60s smoking the hippy grass. Those two along with every other legislator have ruined public education in the state of Michigan. They better get their priorities straight and get needed funding to the schools. Not for teacher salaraies but so schools can operate. Those are the people that recall petitions should be directed at, not school board members who are hand tied by the polices and actions of the state legislators

Response

You know what Eric, you are all over these blogs.  Why don't you have the guts to put your full name with your comments?  You sure spout off a lot  - what, no balls to use your full name?

You appear to have some anger issues.  I'm also thinking perhaps a good night school may help you with your spelling and grammar.

Let me guess...

Is Eric....Eric Moore?  Is Eric married to "Givemeabreak"?  Which would make "Givemeabreak" Suzanne Moore, former board member?  Just a guess....If I'm wrong tell me...we'll just keep guessing!
