Opinion vs. rumor
Wow, somehow a reader thinks the Herald is in cahoots with the Tecumseh Public School administration and/or the board. I'm sure the board would get a laugh out of that. I would like to think that the Herald, and the public in general, has a shared commitment to the schools and its students and to join the board and administration in working for the betterment of the district. The Herald has all of a sudden been pulled into the ongoing school controversy after a letter was edited in this week's paper. The writer did at least two things wrong: a postscript (p.s.) was tagged at the end of the letter; and the information in the "p.s." was declared a "rumor." It wasn't hard to edit out a self-declared rumor, first of all, and secondly, p.s.'s are not and have never been included with any letter. If you have something to say, then say it in the body of the letter, and if you believe you have beneficial information or a question, then say so without suggesting that it's a "rumor." Sorry, but the writer asked for it. We give a lot of latitude to writers, some using the opinion page as a thank you bulletin, some who call presidents liars and terrorists, and others who actually have a sound opinion to make. We prefer letters that sound off with opinions. If you want to ask a public body, like the school board, a question, then ask the school board. Are you really seeking an answer or just passing off criticism disguised as a question in a letter to the editor? We're not defending the school board here. We have made our share of critical opinions on board actions, but wishing for us to print self-declared "rumors" doesn't wash.

WOW!
Sounds to me like someone hit a nerve.
For the record, Ms. Kopchia never said you were in bed with the board or McAran, that was me. And as to you "all of a sudden" being pulled into a controversy because you edited a letter...is just a matter of timing. You pulled yourself in a long time ago when you didn't tell the whole truth...just the truth you wanted to. The perception of you being pulled in is only because I chose to use this circumstance to say what many already think...and have stated outside the printed word. Which, by the way, is easy to do when you can be anonymous...unlike Ms. Kopchia, who was brave enough to stand by her convictions. Also, kudos to her for being honest enough to call a rumor a rumor. To give one's opinion on a matter based on a rumor would be beyond wrong. She didn't wish to lead anyone astray...and gave the facts....the fact that this was a rumor!
As for asking the school board, have you Mr. Lincoln sat in a school board meeting? Mr. McAran is the king of bullies. He will cut you at the knees and make you feel not only sorry that you said a word, but that you shouldn't have been born! I have been there, done that, bought the shirt!
Your "not defending the school board" sure sounds "defensive"....like I said, hit a nerve.
Sincerely,
Rumor Spreader
PS...sometimes people just put PS (post script) after the fact, because that's when the thought hits them....after the fact!!!
WOW Do you work for the same paper?
Did you read Deb Wuethrich's article? It appears asking the Board anything is not exactly easy. It is amazing how you will take this holier-than-thou stance against a non-professional letter writer, but when the Tecumseh public is obviously being mislead, mistreated and ill-informed by this Board, you are sitting there on your high-horse editing comments because someone tried to do the right thing.
