Hearing date set for board recall petitions

A meeting date of Wednesday, June 24, has been set for the Lenawee Election Commission to determine if the wording is clear on a series of recall petitions for four members of the Tecumseh Board of Education. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. in Judge Gregg Iddings probate courtroom at the Lenawee County Courthouse.
The Election Commission is made up of Judge Iddings, Lenawee County Treasurer Marilyn Woods and Lenawee County Clerk Roxann Holloway.

Tecumseh resident David Govro filed the paperwork on June 9, targeting the seats of board members Lou Englund, Dan Gunder, Karen Januszek and Kevin Packard.
The Election Commission will determine if the wording on the petitions is clear. If the wording on the recall petitions is approved, the petitioners will have 180 days to gather 1,695 signatures to force a recall election, or 25 percent of the voter turnout in the last gubernatorial election.

I would encourage all

I would encourage all readers to read the Adrian Telegram from Sunday, so that you can all understand that building the stadium or not has nothing to do with the budget shortfall in Tecumseh.  Every, yes EVERY school district in Michigan is losing money.. Target your state politicians, not your local school boards who are trying to stay afloat in these troubled times.

I would encourage, also...

Brian I thank you for your input.  Did those other districts also go to the voters and get a resounding NO vote for an expenditure and then the school boards thumbed their noses at the public and spent 3 million anyway?  Did those other districts have a fund equity of 1.8 million at the beginning of this year and now are they looking at the rear end of a 1.4 million dollar deficit?  Any of those things happen to be covered in the Sunday Adrian Telegram?

I do thank you Brian, and I invite anyone who would like to help with the recall of a board that refuse to use common sense or listen to the people who put them in office, meet me on the second floor of the County Court House at 9 am Wednesday the 24th.

Wish I could be there

Dave,

I wish I could be there to help you. I hope your recall efforts work out. This school board has got to be the worst I have ever read about. Mr. Urbans speech of being frustrated will receive no sympathy from many people, he is only feeling a small amount of frustration compared to the rest of us that are on the receiving end of his head being in the sand, and his votes being cast with stupidity.

All school districts are in the same boat right now, but most are being much wiser of where they spend their money. New textbooks, technology, and adequate school personnel are what is needed, not new gym equipment, new stadiums, and better looking roofs on the high school.

Once the school board is recalled, I think McAran should be the next on the chopping block.

Good luck.
