Surprise appointment to fill Urban's school board seat
At Monday night's special school board meeting, following the budget hearing, Tecumseh School Board members had an opportunity to review applications for three candidates who were interested in filling the one-year remainder of Gary Urban's seat. Urban resigned from the board on June 8. The three candidates were Dr. Edward Tritt, who formerly served on the board and also served as president; Barbara Lesko; and Debbie Johnson-Burges. Berges was appointed with a 3-2 vote with Jason Sines and Lou Englund voting Nay. Jimmie Rice will be sworn in as a new board member Monday, July 27, when the board holds its next meeting (no meeting July 13), the organizational meeting at which officers will be elected for the coming year. Although she did not opt to run for a full term during the May election, Johnson-Berges said, following the meeting, that she felt it was important to "finish the job" and that she feels strongly about kids and thinks it is the board's responsibility to act in their best intreests and she would do what she could to help out.

Then I guess that recall
Then I guess that recall petition will need to be expanded by one.

Oh well....
That would be nice...but she can't be recalled...and how much you want to bet the Board and McMoron knew that? The sneaky, under-handed, evil ways of the TPS Board and Superintendent are alive and well in Tecumseh!
what do you mean, I wish?
About her not being able to be recalled? Is this because it's an "appointment" and she didn't win the seat in an election?
Kristen
I understand from what Ive heard is she CAN NOT be recalled because it is a appointed position and like Mr. Rice who is a new Board member her position is considered new also so she is immune ! Looks like McAran trying to keep his job with no votes when it comes to the Board booting him out of his job !!!
Not Exactly...
Here's the way it shakes out, and I'm really sorry. Trust me I turned in her recall on July 1, with the exact wording of the others. Roxanne called me after she got it clarified to her, I can not put in a recall for Berges' current appointment with wording about something she did during her last term.... I said "Fine just put on there - "She Sucks!"" When Roxanne (County Clerk) got done laughing, she said no you can not recall during the first 6 months or last 6 months of her new appointment an appointment which happens to be 1 year long. You are exactly correct 'I wish' the underhanded corruption of McAren and his Cronies continues. Now someone just posed the question to me, what about after the recall goes through and there are 4 openings? Are they going to nominate themselves and put Englund in for Packard and etc.? I have to say at this point I don't know, the court house was closed today for the Fourth. Let me tell you, I have a bad feeling about it, on the up side Sines once again voted against Berges so I still believe in his integrity. I also have a good feeling about Rice, so that will be two out of three that will stand for something. A glimmer of hope.

Update
Roxann Holloway is an extremely nice person, if any of you get to meet her it's worth your time, she's the Lenawee County Clerk. She got back to me about the people being recalled, they CAN NOT be 'appointed' by their buddy Berges. Even more they can not be on the ballot in February when all four positions will be voted to be filled by the public. So that is a relief.
