Patronize health care facilities, businesses in Lenawee County

To the Editor,

As our country suffers from an economic recession, it is important that we all realize that we are feeling its effects in Tecumseh as well.  Many local businesses are experiencing the effects of the poor economy and are struggling to survive, and local health care is no exception.  When money is tight and joblessness increases, it’s hard for some families to pay for health care.  Last year, Bixby and Herrick Medical Centers provided more than 17 million dollars in unreimbursed care.

Michigan hospitals are already stressed from years of underfunding from Medicaid, Medicare and other government programs. As reimbursements from insurances are also decreasing, we must support legislative initiatives to guarantee government programs are properly funded.

In this time of adversity, it’s important to patronize local businesses that have invested in our community and it is especially important to support our local medical facilities. Please encourage your family and friends to seek services from Herrick Medical Center and Tecumseh’s physicians. By doing so we will be working together to ensure that the residents of Lenawee County will have sustained access to high-quality health care.
