Maybe not same old school board

An interesting thing can happen when a school board starts its new school year with a July organizational meeting. Occasionally, it's just the same members, having won elections as incumbents, extending their service into a new period. What else can happen, however, is that the dynamics can change with even one new member.

I know there is some criticism out there about the fact that Debbie Johnson-Berges, who expressed no interest in rerunning for her expiring seat, stepped up to fill the seat of Gary Urban, who made an unexpected exit in June, and is even still the president of the board, having been elected among a new slate of officers on Monday night. (Karen Januszek is vice president, Dan Gunder is secretary, and Kevin Packard is treasurer). I'm guessing it was because she was the member who had the most experience in the position.

I'm just an objective observer, having the opportunity to attend most of the school board meetings, among other governmental bodies, but I have seen that even a slight shift can affect the group dynamics, however. I just think that might be the case with Tecumseh's new school board. I have a feeling that there might be a little more discussion on matters that come up this year, maybe even the thoughtful approach. Like board member Lou Englund pointed out during board comment at the close of the meeting Monday, even board members learn from mistakes.

Granted, there have been situations where timeframe parameters come into play and the board members feel a little pressured to "Git 'er done" and move forward. Maybe that specter of not having a playing field for fall had a BIG pressure effect on moving ahead with the athletic complex, especially when the bleachers were condemned, for instance. I know that a suggestion to consider bidding out a sealcoating project for school roadways met with a response of, "But that might delay us getting it done in time for fall now," and maybe affected votes on the motion. These are just examples.

I did notice this, however. Some of the roll-call votes are being split rather than unanimous. Lou Englund and Jason Sines both cast nay votes on the slate of officers. Englund, for one, mentioned that he would prefer such votes be considered separately rather than all-or- nothing ventures. I also noticed that the board's newest member, Jimmie Rice, was not hesitant to vote no on a voice vote a couple of times, going "against the tide," even though it was his first meeting.

Do not read into these things anything that is not there. I'm not suggesting that the new board will be contentious by any means just because there are a couple members who are not afraid to disagree or go a direction other than the flow. I also know that the Recall effort is alive and well, targeting four seats, and time (and voters) will tell how that will play out. I AM suggesting that it is a different board with different dynamics, and that its members ARE looking at how they can do things better. I think the board members, who ARE in a thankless position, do want to do the best they can for the students and the community they serve, the same community they live in. There just might be some interesting discussions this year as they continue to try to build trust with each other — and with the public.

Git 'er done

There is a saying,"Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."  This seems to be the current leadership's style of manangment, wait until the last minute and force the changes 'they' want to see, not what is best for everyone concerned.

One can only hope these members see the error(s) of their ways, but it sure has a smell of people just covering their behinds.

Considering Bergess is now back at the wheel (WE ALL KNOW HER RECORD )and considering McAran ( WE ALL KNOW HIS RECORD )is sitting in the seat behind her whispering in her ear how can you be so optimistic about this NEW/OLD school board ? Looks like business as usual to me considering they re-elected Bergess as president, they once again played around with the bidding game and closed it to all others, they extended McArans contract, YOU WANT A NEWS STORY DEB ? FIND OUT WHY ADRIAN/TECUMSEH FENCE WON THE FENCE BID EVEN THOUGH THEY WHERE NOT THE LOWEST BIDDER ? DEB BERGESS SAID " WE MUST GO WITH THE LOWEST BIDDER ITS STATE LAW " LOOK AT THE SCHOOL WEB SITE AND LOOK AT THE BIDS FOR THE FENCE PORTION ? ASK MR. WRIGHT TO EXPLAIN AND BRING YOUR HIP BOOTS YOU WILL NEED THEM TRUST ME !!!

People I have SAID for a

People I have SAID for a long time now these people can not TELL the TRUTH! The are all liers............ Why does any of this surprize you???? STOP complaining on here it wont do anything.......... Voice your problems to someone that will put a light on things.

Go over their head's.......... To many people in Tecumseh just complain to each other, I seen it for six years.......

O by the way can anyone tell me why the Little Leauge continues to do well??? Simple Much better leadership!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second to none right........

Second to none right........ Who do they think they are fooling.......

I read you moved to Adrian due to the lack of leadership in Tecumseh ?  Dont want to burst your bubble but listen to this .  I was told by a Maple Booster that a stand out H.S. football player for Adrian stole a car and the BOOSTERS paid his bail !  The A.D.s office called and kept it out of the papers even though the kid was 18 !  So if you think being a Maple will help  ? Youre wrong !!!

Parent!!!!

Thanks, but I have no idea if that is even true, If it is than again it is not right at all. I have never said other school dont have problems! If this indeed happend than yes they are wrong also. I never said that ADRIAN is perfect..

What you have in Tecumseh is no leadership at all in! This has been the case for years, Bad decision making peroid. Adrian in my mind has better leaders, and my children will get just as good of an eduaction because we are involved with them.

I have been impressed with the coaching thus far, and I see that they are doing a good job of coaching. We have seen this for six years as they beat Tecumseh every year. What's it going to be this year? Next Year?

SO, Thanks for pointing out what you have, But I will not take this seriously until I have confrimed it myself.

P.S Dont try to sit here and also tell me that the many of Tecumseh's students that have done some of these same things Drinking, Drugs, EXC... All get reported. I know first had they do not.

While we are at it why dont you tell me who you are?
