Clinton Lil’ League hosts state softball games, local 10-11 girls face off in Championship final

Jackson Southwest, Lincoln Park, L'Anse Creuse, Hudsonville, Petoskey, Mattawan, Clinton and Tecumseh each went at it during the Michigan Little League's 10-11 state softball games held in Clinton's Tate Park this week and the two local teams each went undefeated (4-0). Tecumseh and Clinton were set to face off in the championship final on Wednesday.
Pool play began on Saturday, July 25, and concluded on Monday. To open the tournament on Saturday, in pool A, Tecumseh defeated L'Anse Creuse 14-4 while Mattawan downed Hudsonville 9-7.
In pool B, Clinton beat Petoskey 12-6 while Jackson edged Lincoln Park 23-22.
The next day (pool A) Tecumseh defeated Hudsonville 23-13 while L'Anse Creuse beat Mattawan 15-9.
Clinton (pool B) defeated Jackson Southwest 21-0 while Lincoln Park downed Petoskey 19-15.
To finish out pool play, Tecumseh edged Mattawan 4-3 while L'Anse Creuse defeated Hudsonville 4-0.
Clinton took a 6-1 win from Lincoln Park while Petoskey beat Jackson Southwest 11-4.
Quarterfinal play was on Tuesday with the winner of pool A, Tecumseh, facing Petoskey, the No. 2 team of pool B. Tecumseh easily won the contest, shutting out its opponents 10-0.
In the other match, the winner of pool B, Clinton, faced L'Anse Creuse, the No. 2 team from pool A and won 14-4.
Tecumseh and Clinton were to face off in the championship final on Wednesday, the Herald's press day. The results will be reported in next week's paper.
Tecumseh's 10-11-year-old baseball team was playing in the state games at Richmond and hadn't picked up a win after three games.
To open the 15-team event on Friday, July 24, Tecumseh's boys lost 10-1 against Midland Northeast and then followed with a 10-2 loss against Birmingham the next afternoon. On Sunday, July 26, Tecumseh lost 5-3 against Jackson Southwest.
Tecumseh was to play Western on Tuesday to finish out pool play.
Portage, Richmond and Western were leading the tournament with three wins each. Final eight play in the championship bracket began on Wednesday and the championship final is on Friday.
