Donald “Rex” Spence,  76, of Adrian, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 7, 2009.  Rex was born Oct. 29, 1932, in McComb, Ohio, the son of Chester and Bertha (Sterrett) Spence. On Aug. 8, 1954, he married Josephine Hoyt in Bankers, Mich. and she survives.  

Rex served in the U S Army during the Korean War.  He was a resident of Adrian for 31 years coming from Hillsdale County.    Rex owned and operated Mull Accounting in Tecumseh for 26 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Adrian.  
Rex's hobbies included deer hunting and watching old war movies.

In addition to his wife, Josephine, Rex is survived by Cathie (Edward) Stafford of Lansing, Trudy (Steven) Spence-Parker of Ocean City, N.J., and Chet (Julie) Spence of Tipton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Louise Pavey, of Jonesville; brother,  Robert Spence of Tecumseh; and sister-in-law, Betty (Richard) Hughes of Jonesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Dale Spence.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday July 10, 2009,  at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Chris Brundage officiating.  Military Honors will follow the service and will be conducted by the  Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 5 to  8 p.m. at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or the United Methodist Church, Adrian. Condolences my be offered on line at:
