Clinton finishes regular season at 9-0

A big 48-0 Tri-County Conference (TCC) victory over visiting Sand Creek on Friday, Oct. 19, has Clinton’s varsity football team heading into the playoffs with a home field advantage. The win gave the Redskins an outright TCC championship and a guaranteed home play-off game.The Redskins have been paired up against Manchester and will play on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.“We’re very happy for the players who have worked extremely hard to get to this point,” said Clinton coach Scott McNitt. “Our coaches have given a great deal of time to the cause and we appreciate our fan support as we head into the state play-offs. We accomplished our goal to be TCC champions and have been rewarded through unselfish play and commitment to the team to play in the MHSAA State tournament.”Clinton had TJ Baker (1, 5-yard runs) and Collin Poore (55, 33-yard runs) score two touchdowns each to lead the Redskins’ offensive attack.Also scoring touchdowns for Clinton were Kyle Perry (1-yard run) and Mathew Sexton (35-yard reception) while Moritz Jarchow converted six extra point kicks.Poore led the team in rushing with 136 yards on 11 carries. Mathew Sexton (3-54), Baker (7-50), Jared Sackett (6-50), Perry (5-17), Brett Tschirhart (2-9) and Seth Sylvester (1-2) also added rushing yards. Baker completed 6-of-8 passes for 105-yards while Dylan Spurlock was 1-for-1 to total 32 yards.Cullen Zimmerman (2-30), Poore (1-21), Pizzo (1-6), Mathew Sexton (1-38), and Spurlock (1-6) each recorded receiving yardage.Foster Griffin led Clinton’s defense with nine tackles while Perry had eight. Jacob Brassfield, Grant Clark and Nate Kaszuba (1 sack) each had six tackles.Zach Amsdill racked up three tackles, a sack and fumble recovery for Clinton.The Redskins’ Offensive Player of the Game was Poore while Foster Griffin was named Clinton’s Defensive Player of the Game. Special Teams Player of the Game honors went to Mike Sexton while Dylan Spurlock was named Clinton’s Red Army Player of the Week.
