Clinton scraps with Whiteford, plays with Britton-Deerfield

Remaining undefeated in the Tri-county Conference wasn’t an easy task for Clinton’s varsity baseball team when playing against visiting Whiteford on Monday, May 10. The two teams went into overtime before Clinton pulled off a 4-3 victory.

Senior Stephen Cooley went to work on both sides of the plate. He threw 7.1 innings and allowed two runs (1 earned) on four hits while walking three and striking out nine. On the other side of the plate, Cooley went 3-for-4 to also lead the offense.

The Bobcats scored a run in the first inning while Clinton scored a run in the third. Both teams scored one run in the sixth inning and went scoreless in the seventh.

Whiteford scored a run in the top of the eighth inning but was given no more with senior Rylie Robinson being sent in on relief for two-thirds of an inning.

The contest finished in dramatic fashion with the winning run scored in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Clinton senior Marcus Stewart hit a walk off triple to score Cooley and senior Jesse Sexton for the W.

Robinson allowing zero earned runs and striking out one. Clinton senior Mike Bohnett had a double and a RBI while seniors Stefan Spurlock and Josh Lovejoy added a hit each. Junior Hayden Craig had two hits for Clinton.

Clinton pounded out the runs at Britton-Deerfield in a Tri-County Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, May 12.
The Patriots were swept with finals of 11-0 and 12-0.

In game one, Clinton scored a run in the first and third innings before pouring it on in the fourth inning with six runs. Another run was added by Clinton in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to finish all scoring. Clinton had 11 hits on the day while B-D had two.

Robinson earned the pitching win after four innings of work. He allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
Clinton’s Stefan Spurlock went 4-for-3 at the plate with four RBI and a run scored. Mike Bohnett went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for Clinton while Hayden Craig had a couple of hits, scored two runs and logged two RBI.

Chase Sampsel and Kyle Willaert had hits for the Patriots.

Game two lasted just five innings with Spurlock earning the pitching win after throwing four innings. He gave up two hits and four walks while striking out four.

Clinton took a 2-0 lead after one inning and added seven more in the second innings to force the issue. Clinton added one run in the third inning and two more in the fourth to finish all scoring.

Cameron Clark went 3-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI for Clinton’s offense while Cooley went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and four RBI.

Andrew Prielipp and Josh Hoffman produced hits for the Patriots.

Clinton is now 15-4 overall and 8-0 in the TCC.
