Audrey M. King

Audrey M. King, 90, of Tipton, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at Herrick Hospital.  Audrey was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Riga, Mich., the daughter of George and Catherine A. (Reese) Kleindienst.  In 1938, she graduated from Blissfield High School, the first in her family to receive a diploma.

On Feb. 16, 1945, Audrey married Lawrence King in Adrian.  Lawrence preceded her in death in 1977.

Her first job was at the Home Canning Co. in Blissfield.  For three years, she enjoyed working for Dr. Howard Heffron at his family home.  Audrey then worked in several retail stores including, Morris Dime Store, Cunningham's, S. S. Kresge Co., Montgomery Ward and Zody's Department Store.  She was actively involved with the Adrian Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol for over 20 years, where she served as a captain.  Audrey was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church.  Most importantly, Audrey treasured her grandchildren and loved helping raise Amber and Tara.

Audrey is survived by a son, Richard (Carol) King of Tipton; six grandchildren, Amber and Tara King; Paul King, Jenny King, Mike (Sue) King, and David (Heather) King; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie DeKeyser of Riga.  

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Arthur King; great grandson, Xavier King; two sisters; and six brothers.

The funeral service for Audrey was held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Burdine officiating.  Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery.
