Tribe ranked No. 7 in state by MIVCA

The Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) had Tecumseh’s varsity squad ranked No. 7 in the state for Class B this week. Tecumseh improved to 23-1 overall (4-1 SEC) on Tuesday after defeating visiting Ann Arbor Huron 25-9, 25-19, 30-28 and Ann Arbor Skyline 25-12, 25-12, 25-22.Tecumseh’s leaders included Kelsey Berrington with 27 kills, 22 assists and 14 digs: Sarah Sailus with 12 kills; Carly Tillotson with 23 assists, 32-for-33 serving with 19 points and six aces; Gabby Nowak with 17 digs and Jordyn Norkey with 13 digs.At the Williamston Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18, the Indians won the championship by blasting past Goodrich in the championship match with two straight wins of 25-12 and 25-10.In the semi-final, Tecumseh defeated Fowlerville 25-17 and 25-15.During pool play, Tecumseh beat Goodrich 25-20, 25-15: Waverly 25-5, 25-15; Fowlerville 25-13, 25-15 and Manchester 25-19, 25-15.Leading the Indians were Berrington (54 kills, 41 assists, 40 digs), Tillotson (73 assists, served 72-76 with 52 points, 12 aces); Sailus (36 kills, 10 blocks), Nowak (41-41 serving with 23 points), Chelsea Hutchison (43-43 serving with 26 points), Morgan Hite (39 digs), Norkey (36 digs) and Sam Diehl (19 kills).The Indians also defeated Chelsea 25-6, 25-20, 25-15 on the road, Tuesday, Sept. 14.Leaders for the Indians included Berrington (10 kills, 11 assists), Tillotson (14 assists), Diehl (7 kills), Nowak and Hite (13-13 serving, 5 digs each).Tecumseh plays Dexter at home next Tuesday, Sept. 28.
