Tecumseh School Board considers district goals for 2010-11 school year

By DEB WUETHRICH

Tecumseh School Board members held a special meeting Monday night to formulate a set of goals for the 2010-11 school year.

The board members narrowed goals down to four primary areas, which will be discussed again and voted on at the Oct. 11 meeting. The tentative goals are:

• Improve community relations.
• Raise the level of accountability and clarify expectations for people.
• Implement innovative educational programs that will enhance all student learning.
• Maintain a district fund balance comparable with the state average.

Supt. Mike McAran said the last goal would likely be the most difficult.

“That’s because it’s such a moving target,” he said.

The board members also have been working on goals for the superintendent. At an earlier workshop, a series of short- and long-term goals for the Board of Education were worked out. Those were approved at the Sept. 27 meeting and included efforts for higher visibility of board members at district events, and earning Honor Board status with the state. Fewer than 10 school districts in Michigan have that distinction.
