Thomas P. Barton

Thomas P. Barton, age 67, of Adrian, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at home with his loving family by his side. Tom was born Sept. 7, 1943, the son of James and Gene (Glenn) Barton. On Sept. 22, 1979, he married Linda Simon and she survives.

Tom was a lifetime resident of the area. He was a 1961 graduate of Tecumseh High School and held an associate degree from Monroe County Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, honorably serving his country from 1966 until 1969. He worked as a Cost Accountant for Tecumseh Products before retiring in 2001 after 29 years of service.

Tom was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh actively participating in the life of his church and serving as both an Elder and Deacon. Tom loved to golf, was an avid hunter and was a member of the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club in Engadine, Mich. He was a huge sports fan, and especially loved following U of M athletics. Tom enjoyed life and spending time with his family and his three granddogs.  He was loved by everyone and will be missed by all who knew him.

Tom is survived by his wife, Linda of Adrian; his son, Matthew (Sara) Barton of Holly; his daughter, Sarah (Dan) Thomas of Onsted; two brothers, Jerry (Connie) Barton of Tecumseh and Glenn (Lita) Barton of Fleming Island, Fla; a sister, Betty Hyatt of Tecumseh; a sister in law, Ann Kalis of Unionville, Mich; and five grandchildren, Drew Barton and Zach, Katie, Matt and Joshua Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John.

The family received friends at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 28, and Monday, Nov. 29. Tom laid in state Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh. A funeral service celebrating his life followed at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Richard Mortimer officiating. Cremation took place at Tom’s request after the service.
