Rev. Donald Charles Porteous Sr.

Rev. Donald Charles Porteous Sr. passed into the Lord’s hands Dec. 27, with family at his side.  Born 7-9-1918 in New Brighton Pa., Don graduated from Asbury College and Asbury Seminary in Wilmore Ky. He met his partner and wife of 64 years, Betty, at Asbury. Betty died three years ago. He leaves three children — David in Conn., Donald in Tex, and Kathy in Fla. Donald was a retired minister of the United Methodist Church from Michigan. His devotion to Christ’s ministry continued through this year. They had three granddaughters and one great-grandson. Don’s gentleness, caring, humor, strength of character, and love will be missed. A memorial service was at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor on Sunday Jan. 2 at 3 p.m. Rev. David Landers of Heritage United Methodist Church led the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Rev. Don and Betty Porteous Scholarship Fund at Asbury University in Wilmore Ky., (800-888-1818 x2104), and/or the Rev. Don and Betty Porteous Fund at Heritage United Methodist Church, Clearwater, Fla., (727-796-1329) or to a church or charity of your choice.
