Program helps teachers improve classroom skills

To the Editor,

This letter is regarding “Teaching, Leading and Learning” in Lenawee.
Professional development for teachers is a vital tool for improving student learning. Just like practitioners in other fields, teachers need to deepen their knowledge and improve their skills. Lenawee County schools are fortunate to have leadership that recognizes the importance of providing quality professional development experiences for local educators.

On Monday, Jan. 17, over 900 educators from Lenawee County participated in a collaborative County-Wide Professional Development Day (CWPD)…a day of “Teaching, Learning, Leading” showcasing the talents and best practices of Lenawee County’s own “master” teachers. Sixty-one different learning opportunities were offered from which teachers could choose to attend morning, afternoon, or full-day sessions. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all who made this day of learning possible:

• Our 87 presenters and facilitators
• Lenawee County Professional Development Advisory Committee members and all of our Lenawee County Superintendents and Principals who were involved in the envisioning and planning, and many of whom volunteered to assist with hosting and support activities at several of our CWPD sites
• Volunteers who assisted with hosting and supporting activities in CWPD locations around the county from greeting people as they arrived, to guiding participants to the assigned rooms, assisting presenters with check in and set up
• Local district building and maintenance crews, food service, office staff, technology support staff, and transportation personnel from Addison, Blissfield, Hudson, Lenawee County Human Services Building, LISD, Madison, St. Joseph Academy, and Tecumseh

Thank you to our Lenawee county educators who teach, learn, and lead every day to make a difference in the lives of our students.
