A girls' night out at the Art Affair
It was a girls’ night out Tuesday night for the Trapani/Scott/Peck women. My mom, my daughter, Kiki, and I attended the Art Affair. We’ve had a few girls’ nights out (or days out) since my mom’s been visiting this summer, but this one was extra special. My mom, Maria Trapani, was a contributing artist in this year’s Art Affair that benefited Communities in Schools of the Tecumseh Area and Community Arts of Tecumseh.
This is the second year she’s donated a piece to the Art Affair. The first year, she sent a painting from Arizona. CISTA Executive Director Susan Reeder asked if she’d help after I blogged about the painting she’d done of wildlife in Bird Park. Our evening out was the first time Susan and my mother had an opportunity to meet in person. In fact, my mom met a lot of Tecumseh people and heard a lot of nice things about her artwork.
The event made for a perfect night. We all love art. My mom’s been painting in my house every day and Kiki has been painting alongside her. I’ve even taken up the paintbrushes a little. As much as we love making art, we love seeing art and mingling with artists.
We had a blast. The Art Affair was well attended and the sweet treats drew Kiki in instantly. Kiki loves a party, especially one with delicious cookies. I purchased all of us a few raffle tickets and we chose our pieces of art. None of us won in the raffle, much to Kiki’s chagrin. She was eyeing Steve Tracy’s Faberge-style egg. I did, however, bid on an encaustic piece in the re-art auction and ended up being the top bidder. What made it extra special was that the piece was created by my children’s former art teacher at Britton, Taina Bundshuh. So, her piece will go up amid all of the other original art in my house and be much appreciated.
