Congressman votes against 60 percent of the people’s will

To the Editor,

It is ironic that with the November election fast approaching Congressman Mark Schauer is sending out expensive, colorful campaign brochures, probably at citizens expense, listing all the things he is going to do for all of us poor Michigan folks that can’t think for ourselves.  He intends to work on China, our largest debtor, repeal NAFTA, which we know is a big joke.  He is going to save Social Security.  Have you ever wondered where he has been the last two years?

One place he has been is in the House of Representatives voting against over 60 percent of the people’s wishes, namely the health care bill.  However, he forgot to tell us some of the things that this law does that does not seem to set very good with most of us. He did not mention the tax of 3.8 percent when we sell our house. This tax will start in 2013.  He failed to mention  the penalties on employers with more than 50 employees or taxes on investment  income.

Seniors with IRA’s and 401(k) plans will be hit particularly hard. How about a tax on medical devices, or a tax on high end health plans. Ever wonder why the health insurance companies are staying silent on this issue?  Because they will have an open end to increase premiums to whatever they want, in order to offset the pre-existing conditions and open end tort. Schauer supports all of this nonsense. This current administration holding our future in their hands  is the most underhanded, unjust, just plain dishonest, that has ever been elected.

Working

lensux10  the Bible says if you don't work you don't eat.  It promises a better life through work.  this country is declining because people want everyone else to support them.  I have no health insurance and don't want the government telling me I have to purchase insurance.  If you didn't have a living wage why didn't YOU do something about it instead of waiting for someone else to foot the bill.

So.....Been working all my

So.....Been working all my life....not a living wage.  NO HEALTH INSURANCE.  Not for the last 8 years.  What makes you better than me????  Thank you Shauer and President Obama.... we are still out here.  All you CHRISTIAN contributers... look in the mirror.  And ask...WWJD what would Jesus do?

Gone Fishing

Trust me I'm no better than anyone else.  I would just rather pulll my own weight and not have to rely on anyone do for me what I know I can do for myself.  WWJD?  He would have taught you how to fish.  If you don't like the situation that you are in then you are the only one that can get you out of that situation.  It's not up to the masses to support the few, but to promote (ie...encourage, assist) those and help them get back on thier feet.

Schauer Works For Himself

John Ryan did read what you wrote about the constitution? "the spirit of the Constitution to "promote the general welfare".   Promote the general welfare, not support the general welfare.  Here are some dictionary definitions so you will understand.

Promoteto help or encourage to exist or flourish;.

Support: to maintain (a person, family, establishment, institution, etc.) by supplying with things necessary to existence;.

You figure out what Schauer and the rest of the Democrate colleages want.  And who flips the bill for this wonderfull healthcare bill......ummmm duh!  Oh and guess what? The Senators and Congress are exempt from the bill...imagine that.  And again how is the government paid for?  Oh yeah, our tax dollars.  So guess what? You, me and every other hard working Ameerican are supporting those who dont work, not willing to work, or are here illeaglly.  When we should be promoting new jobs, tax cuts and credits and to get people to accept personal responsibility for their actions.

Maybe when everyone start learning the difference we can start getting this counrty back on track.

reply to Pete Hayes et al

Pete Hayes should do his homework, before speaking politics and study both sides of the fence. Unlike him, I HAVE studied both candidates' voting records and Walberg is utterly destructive to education, jobs, healthcare, environment, basic human rights and social security, just to mention a FEW. And, "Go Panthers" (I never trust anyone who is afraid to give their real name to begin with!), I was also at a townhall meeting, probably the one you are speaking of and the only reason only two people agreed with Schauer, was because the place was jampacked with Republicans and the few Democrats who showed up, were scared to death to be trampled to pulp by those angry, loud and rude people, hence we did not say much. Thank you, John, I am with you!

Schauer works for his district

I disagree with your assessment of Mark Schauer's performance.  While it is not perfect, the Health Care bill recently passed fulfills a critical need in this country and delivers on the spirit of the Constitution to "promote the general welfare".  Schauer has also worked to advance the creation of jobs by promoting the alternative energy goals of this country.

I will vote for Mark Schauer in November to insure that our county and district stay on the path to progress and to continue to demonstrate that as one country, we all have an obligation to "form a more perfect union" through our legislators as well as through our own actions.

The obstructionist actions of the Republican party during the past two years has convinced me that it is not interested in the general welfare of the country but only the most powerful financial interests that have done irreparable harm to us main street ordinary citizens.

Schauer Sooo Fired...

Im so glad someone else noted that, these lovely glossy little flyers sho' did cost a purdy penny.  As one of his telephone "listeners" during his Town Call meeting on Healthcare, only two people supported the new policies.  It was  obviously pre-scripted and in my opinion anyway, he had the attitude that he knew better than we did what we need.

Sorry Mr. Schauer, but its my turn to talk in November....
