Wayne Curtis Filter

Wayne Curtis Filter, 82, of Tecumseh, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Cambrian Assisted Living under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Britton, Mich., to Henry R. and Marie (Spreeman) Filter. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Greta Jennings; sadly, she preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2007.He honorably served his country, as a paratrooper, during the Korean Conflict in the US Army, and was a proud member of the American Legion Post #34, Tecumseh. Upon his discharge he went to work at the Tecumseh Products for 37 years, retiring in 1983.Wayne was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tecumseh, had been a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels. In his day, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. But his great passions were farming, and especially spending time with his family. He will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him.He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children, Jeff (Jeannie) Filter of Wickliffe, Ohio and Paula (Tom) Hart of Tecumseh; his beloved grandchildren, Chris (Beckie) Hart and Allison Hart; and his dear great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Michael.As well as his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Warren; and his sister, Wilma Godzina.Friends may call at the Tecumseh Chapel of the Handler Funeral Homes on Friday, March 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Philip Krieger of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will also be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Full military Honors will be conducted, following services, at the funeral home by the Tecumseh American Legion and the Tecumseh VFW. Inurnment will take place at Ridgeway Cemetery, Tecumseh at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his name be made to the Hospice of Lenawee or the charity of the donor's choice.Word of inspiration and comfort may be left to the family by visiting the obituary page at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com.
