Indians lose homecoming 26-19

Tecumseh lost its homecoming game against Dexter 26-19. The Indians closed the first half with a 19-13 lead but went into the fourth quarter tied 19-19. Dexter scored the game winning touchdown with 5:09 left in the game.

Same story, different night

Another lead at halftime.   Another second half of being shut out.  Another game of the other team out coaching Tecumseh with adjustments at the half.  Maddening.  Now here comes the good teams.

Bye bye coach

Coach Mensing has to go. Plain and simple!

Enough is enough

This kids work to hard throughout the year for this to keep happing. They are a better team than this.

When will this city demand a winning program.  I hear Mensing is a great guy off the field, as far as coaching goes he isnt worh a sh-t.

Maybe parks and rec. will have a opening for a flag football coach next year, because he sure the heck shouldnt be coaching anything higher.

I feel smarter...

Thanks for that post.  I hear they have an opening in the 1st grade english deparment, because you sure as heck shouldn't be teaching any higher...

Wanted...New Football Coach

Tecumseh needs a new coach!  Unless your kid is a running back he does not know how to develop his players.  How can a quarterback improve when he only throws 5 passes a game.  Your child plays wide receiver forget it never get the ball thrown to him.  Every year we hear wait till the JV moves up they are having a great year or the Freshman are playing great wait till they move up, and yet it is still the same result once they make the varsity squad.  The kids don't want to play in this boring offense I doubt the parents like watching it much either.  After another losing season will someone tell the coach his offense is not working here and he needs major changes.

Wow...Way to speak for the

Wow...Way to speak for the 'kids'. Don't you think that if they wanted to saysomething, they would say it for themselves?-Caleb Hughes 78

No

Not a chance.

Did you not understand?

How can you say "not a chance"?  Caleb is on the football team.  He just answered your question.  Are you calling him a liar?

Coach?

Coach Mensing does not know how to develope his assets.  A high school coach can't really go out and recruit much, so he has to know how to recognize the potential in the players,  encourage players to reach that full potential, and develop play strategies.  In my experience, he is constantly looking for players he doesn't have, creates discouragement by making promises to players that he will not keep, and copies his strategies from others.

I had hoped for more, but haven't seen it yet.  Maybe next year.

Amazing

They win, and there are two comments.

They lose, and here comes everybody.

Wonderful support.

Do you all sit on the visitor's side?  I hope so.

The Coach nearly cost them the one win they have

Boon, I don't know if you were at the game or not, but the lone victory these boys have was almost lost by a coaching mistake in the final minute of the game.  I suspect the reason no one commented on that win was because we didn't want to bitch about the stupidity of the coach's decision to run the ball into the end zone with less than a minute left and the opponents had no time outs left and Tecumseh had a first down.  Rather than downing the ball and running the clock out - "Coach" decided to punch in one more score.  This gave the ball back to the opponents, who run the kick-out back for a score and then had a chance to recover the on-side kick and potentially score again and thereby deny these boys their only win.  So, again, while we would love to let the team enjoy their win, instead we were all shaking our heads on how we escaped despite the poor coaching decision.

Support is shown in the stands at the games.  Discontent is shown in replies here.  I'd say support wins.  :)  Nice to hear from you, Caleb.  :)

Honestly !!!!

We have the largest O-line in the league (Caleb Hughes) . We have 3 VERY talented running backs . We have a VERY talented QB (when he is allowed to throw the ball) . We have the weapons and these same kids beat these teams as J.V. players but have a 1 and 4 record ? Those of you who think blind loyality to Mr. Mensing will lead to a winning season need to rethink that position ! The weapon we seem to be missing is a coach who can put a offensive scheme together inorder to put points on the board ! The lack of Seniors and lack of players shows how the kids feel about the program ! How many kids will leave a winning program like Adrian , Chelsea , or Hudson inorder to come here and play for this coach even if it means playing in a new stadium ? Thigs will not change around here because every time you say anything your attacking the kids . Its now time for us to play the power house teams #1 Adrian , #3 Chelsea , and Bedford and because of coaching NOT OUR PLAYERS we have no shot of getting into the playoffs !

AMEN Brother!!!!!!!!!!!

Right On The Money!

Caleb, I respect you for sticking up for your coach.  When I was a player many many years ago, we we would stand up to the very end for our coach as well.  But as spectators and parents looking from the outside in we can see things that you may not be aware of.

Mike, you are right on the money, we have some VERY talented kids out there trying their very best, but being misled by a coach that is trying to reach his own agenda and not doing what is best for these kids.  Win or lose, I really dont care, as long as the effort isn't only coming from the kids playing.  The coaching staff has to smart about what they are doing and the decisions they are making.  If the kids get out played, well, then they get out played.  But when you can consistantly see that we are getting out coached.....well then the athletic director needs to make a decision.  Are you really going to draw in more students/athletes into a poorly coached program?  Probably not.  New stadium or not.  And a coach that picks a fight with the opposing team after a game because he lost, on the feild and in front of the kids, what kind of message does that send?  These kids deserve better.

Own agenda?

What is Coach Mensing's agenda?  It's to win.  That's it.  Nothing else.

If you think there is something else, what is it?

And here is a preemptive "you're wrong", just so I don't have to write it after.

Wrong? Really?

Why would coach Mensing leave an arleady somewhat of a successfull football program in Grayling to come to Tecumseh?  Why does anyone leave a job to go to another (this does not include anything other than their own choosing), but to try and move themselves up the ladder.  So yes, he has his own agenda, to try to move himself up at whatever cost.  Did I read or not read that he is looking at an undercoach position at Sienna Heights?  That sounds like an agenda to me.  And if he's woking on being a coach for a junior college and then maybe a major college, more power to him.  But he needs to learn how to be a sucessfull high school coach first.  I appologize for screwing up your preemptive "your wrong", and I look forward to next reply.  Hopefully with a little more information than what you have posted in the past.

Agenda

If coach Mensing wants to move anywhere, he has to win.  That is number one on his agenda.  Nothing else.  As I said...

Also, Tecumseh is his home, that's why he would move.

YES HIS AGENDA !!!!

I asked the A.D. (Griff Mills) at the end of the last game of the season last year why Mr. Mensing didnt play his Seniors in the final minutes of that game in Charlotte ? We had a 2 and 6 record going into that game with no hope of making the playoffs ! I was told by the A.D. that Mr. Mensing was "going for the win". As we all know we lost that game and ended the season 2 and 7 . Mr. Mensing and Mr. Tim Murphy have a side business putting on coaching clinics to teach the Double Wing Offense . You can go on line and search it for yourself . So , how do you sell your offense when you have a losing season ? You blame it on your players by saying you have a L.O.F.T. problem at Tecumseh !  His first year Mr. Mensing did well he got the boys into the playoffs . The next year things went bad and every year after its gotten worse ! Cant help but wonder how many coaches of teams "we play" paid to attend his clinics ????

Football Coach

It's very simple. We have a good run game. And we use it all the time. The problem is too much. We do good the first half of the game, but by the second half the other teams have figured us out. Its a no brainer. We pose no threat in the passing game. We line up the same every time. We dont streach out the defense, keep them guessing. The threat of the pass is what keeps the running game a good tool. He, the coach, doesnt seem to get this. Im not sure what planet hes living on, but the run every time will not yield a winning team. I dont even think they practice the pass. When they get the opportunity to pass, they look like fish out of water. Very depressing that none of his asst. coaches get this, and have the nerve to share the secret to what hes doing wrong.

Hey Coach, it's not too late

You still have some time, maybe you could run some pass plays in practice today. Shake it up a bit. Maybe even suprise Adrian. Or you could keep doing the same boring routine that leads this team into another loss. Make every play a run, build a first half lead, and continue running the ball every time in the second half even though they have figured out your simple play calling and have completely shut you down. Oh yea, then lose the game. PLEASE pass the ball, you have nothing to lose, it just may work!

@ Chris

I guess it is to late!!! Seeing he did not change anything and lost to Adrian what 55-7 throwing the ball all of what 10 to 15 times?

What is it "Stay the course even though it is not working". Has not worked, and may never work?

Loss to Chelsea

My son played football for Tecumseh a few years back and the support of the community was the same. I could hear cheerleaders comment on how bad we sucked. And people passing by would shout it out their windows. I you all aren't sitting in the bleachers cheering, then you are part of the problem. You need to back your team no matter what. These kids have less than an enthusiastic pep club behind them.  Maybe if the moral was a little better, they might get somewhere.  GO INDIANS!

I'm sitting in the

I'm sitting in the bleachers cheering.  Based on the huge number of people in the stands and milling around along the fence at each game, I'd say there is community support for these boys.  We're proud of them.  :)

To be honest, I didn't know there was a pep club.  Whoever is in charge of it should possibly extend a more noticable hand to the community?  :)

What will the excuse be next year?

Well now that Jason is going to be coaching Siena Heights kids, What will the excuse be next year? Tecumseh has the reputation for having the most whiny parents in the whole SEC. Let's get something straight here. The coaching was fine! You parents have coddled your kids for way too long.

You will never have a program like Adrian or Chelsea. Your kids are not tough enough because of you. The kids learn from you it is alright to make excuses. Toughen up a bit and teach the kids to work hard with what they have.

Let me guess the new coach is going to suck too? If anyone wants to coach here. The word is out about the Tecumseh parents calling the shots. Not to mention the SEC is way too tough for Tecumseh. Just an observation.

Question for Todd L

If it is all the parents fault because we have coddled our children for way to long, then how do you explain the fact that this program has underachieved for 10 years? Is it every parent for that time? I can not agree with this thinking.

Mensing was and is a great person, he tough the players many good qualities for sure, but as for being a coach he was way below average. A program can not excel by providing life lessons alone, we all agree that a coach should provide these things but a coach MUST also have the ability to realize what coaching plan you are using is working or not.

Mensing's offense racked up yards for sure, but never scored the kind of points for all that work. Every coach he faced knew what was coming at them and they adjusted and stopped them in the second half of every game. It is simple as that. The kids were out of energy and forced to continue to do the same thing over and over.

I understand that it is hard to blame the coach when he is such a nice guy and I do agree many parents are whiny but I am not sure you can place all of the blame on the parents here. Do you also blame the parents for the results of the Men's and Women s basketball programs who have what one win between them this year, and who also have struggled for many years?

I think blaming the structure or development of players and the program is a far better answer.
