End of the road for area football teams

Tecumseh finished its season at 2-7 overall with a big 53-28 victory at home against Charlotte. Clinton (5-4 overall) lost 29-15 at Summerfield to also end its season. BD (4-5 overall) was beat 47-13 at Sand Creek in its final game.

So whats the latest ? Is

So whats the latest ? Is Mensing IN or OUT ? I've heard several rumors but nothing solid as of yet......

OUT PLEASE!!!

OUT PLEASE!!!

Talent

Lets start by saying that I can't speak to what is wrong with the football team as I have only gone to a few games. However, with basketball I have been a Tecumseh Fan for the past 20 plus years. So I have seen them when they were very good during the Poppink days through last year. Nothing against the players that are there now but as far as talent there is not a lot there. What I have seen as a growing trend in the basketball program is players and parents that think they are better than they actually are. I believe that one of the biggest problems is all the negativity coming from fans and parents (only worried about their kid) and not the betterment of the team. In looking at the last 5 years or so the most talented group was I believe 3 years ago (Mr. Nightingale I believe that was the year you were helping with JV). This group had some nice pieces and did ok. However, after that the drop off in talent has been tremendous. I believe the last three varsity team has had the least amount of talent that I have seen in my 20+ years of watching. Now some of that is coaching and a lack of youth system I will agree, but a lot of that is that there is just not a lot there to work with. Looking at this year I am not sure how the team will be. The senior group to me is ok. They have one really good player then the rest are just average. The good player has a chance to be first team SEC which hasn't happened for Tecumseh in a few years. The junior class is a hard nosed class but I really don't see any players that are standout basketball players. These kids are fun to watch because they never give up and are never out worked. On JV last year they won 7 or 8 games I believe with 3 or 4 freshmen playing a lot of minutes. Then that brings me to the sophmore class. I believe this is the best basketball class Tecumseh has had in the last 10 to 15 years. They won more than 10 games last year with 3 or 4 players moved up. By watching one can tell that this team has played a lot of basketball. They have a great compliment of speed and height. I am hoping that this team will able to help bring the program back.

If you look at the SEC and the other school campariable to Tecumseh (Chelsea) they had a great class 2 years ago and that class is seniors now, but when that class was sophmores they had many of them on Varsity gaining experience and they only won 4 or 5 games. To me that will be interesting as to what the coach does this year for Tecumseh. Will he bring up some of these sophmores and throw them into the fire.

Like I said I am just a fan but I think this year will be interesting and I do not know what to expect. I hope for the best for the players and will be attending many games with my children. Best of luck the the boys and have a fun season.

Funny thing is I was thinking the same thing! What are the excuses that the basketball team will use for not winning? Not enough players? Competition to tough? EXC.

These are all excuses for the lack of a "program system" that empowers the players, strengthens their ability, and provides them with a NEW foundation to succeed NOW. The players are to good, to talented to have another 2-18 season or the alike,

When will they learn that it is about the system you provide not just the coach who happens to be good for the kids to be around! The reasons, Tecumseh struggles at basketball is obvious, and the reasons every other school in the SEC succeed are plane and simple.

I wish them well, I really do because I know all of them are very good kids and very good players.

Movin' On

Thank goodness it finally over!  Lets keep all of these football blogs around so that all we have to do is copy and paste when it comes time to comment on the upcoming basketball season.

Chris

I agree :)

They also need more players.

They also need more players. They get no rest really playing both sides of the ball. They need to be able to substitute the players.

NM Porter Good Question

The answer is obvious of course, little has been done to change the culture of athletics. It is much easier to "keep it in the family" stay the same course as the last.

The problem is not just the coaches, its the program system itself, that leads to the results they have had for what 10 plus years or more. The players are very good kids, good athletes and deserve much better.

Flicker of hope, but new spark needed to an eternal flame.

I've followed THS football since 1991, and saw my first game in more than a decade at Homecoming. There are definite flickers of hope for the team.  The team certainly looked better than the last game I saw against Dexter in 1997.  But it really is the same old same old so long as they have the same families running THS sports.  I don't doubt the devotion of the coaches to their alma mater (several of them were in the class ahead of me and I know they were devoted Indians), but this isn't UM.  You don't always have to hire a THS man for the job,  In fact, it might be a refreshing change if you didn't. Do other SEC schools face this same "inbreeding"?

Nice Job

Tecumseh Football Team for doing well in the final game!
