Norris Dean Kopka

Norris Dean Kopka, 77, of Tecumseh, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, with his family by his side, at the Herrick Medical Center under the care of the Hospice of Lenawee.A lifetime resident of the area, he was born on Oct. 12, 1933, in Blissfield, Mich., to William C. and Edna Mae (Cheever) Kopka. Norris was a 1952 graduate of Britton High School, where he was named valedictorian of his class.On May 21, 1955, he married Phyllis Monday in Toledo, and she survives. He worked for the US Postal Service for 33 years, and retired in 1989.He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, woodworking, attending auctions, traveling, and spending time on the golf course. At one time he served as the Tecumseh Township Building Inspector, and was currently on the Township Zoning Board. Survivors include his wife, daughters, Colleen (Walter) Paulson of Medina, Ohio, and their children, Chandra and Chayton Paulson, and Lynette Roznowski of Muskegon; her children, Joshua and Andrew Roznowski; and a brother, Harold (Vernita) Kopka of Britton.Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jessica Roznowski; a brother, Wayne; and a sister, Maurine Clough.Visitation for Norris washeld at the Tecumseh Chapel of the Handler Funeral Homes on Wednesday, Sept. 7, where a service to celebrate his life was held on Thursday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dick Bruce officiated. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Ridgeway Cemetery.Memorial gifts in his name may be given to the Britton/Macon Educational Scholarship Fund, the Hospice of Lenawee, or the Relay for Life.Online condolences, memories, and words of comfort may be offered to the family by visiting the obituary page at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com.
