Peter Chester Zarnoch

Peter Chester Zarnoch, age 85, of Tecumseh died Friday, Aug. 17 with his wife and family by his side. He was born September 10th, 1926 on the family farm in Petersburg Michigan the son of Teofil and Constancia Zarnoch. They farmed with horses till after the war. On November 8, 1952 he married Earline Holcomb of Petersburg Mich. She survives. Preceding him in death were his sisters Mary Chorzempa and Jessie Werynski and two brothers Walt and John. Surviving are nephews Terry Chorzempa, Bill (Mary Ellen) Werynski, Walt Zarnoch, and niece Mary Kay Zielinski.For 44 years Pete worked at the Products as an inspector. Upon retiring in June of 1991 he and Earline traveled to visit his army buddy in Texas and his brother in Arizona. Bowling, golf, and fishing were pastimes while he was able. His main passion was gardening. He was known for his homemade horseradish sauce. Pete was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan and seldom missed watching a game. Pete was a life member of the Tecumseh American Legion Post No. 34 where he worked many years helping with the Friday night Bingo fundraisers. Drafted out of Petersburg High School, Pfc Peter Zarnoch served in Japan as a cook with the occupational forces after Japan surrendered.A Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh, with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery with military honors performed by the Tecumseh American Legion Post No. 34 and Tecumseh VFW Post No. 4187.Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to donor’s choice.
