Carl Gerten

Carl Gerten, 88, of Tecumseh passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Ottawa, Ohio, to Alexander P. and Gertrude H. (Siefker) Gerten. On Sept. 28, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, Ohio, he married Evelyn Elchert. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2011. Carl was an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, being a member of the Shamrock Seniors Card Club and singing with the Barber Shop Chorus.He loved traveling, wintering in Florida, golfing and being with his family — especially during family vacations at Mohican State Park in Ohio.He was a 45 year resident of Tecumseh.He is survived by his children, Dan (Mariann) Gerten of Butler, Pa., Richard (Pamela) Gerten of Marshall, Mich., Rosanne (Roy) Schlegel of Tecumseh, Fred (Theresa) Gerten of Phoenix, Ariz., Linda (Dale) Forsyth of Adrian, and Ed (Annie) Gerten of Britton; two sisters, Gertrude Smith of Tiffin, Ohio and Mary Ellen (Don) Wilhelm of Cleveland, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Corporal Ronald Gerten; two sisters, Mae Evert and Betty Tusing; and a brother, Rudy Gerten.The Funeral Liturgy for Carl was held Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Father Dan Wheeler as celebrant. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. Visitation was held Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh.Condolences to the family may be made at www.andersonfuneralhomeadriantecumseh.com.
