Tecumseh picks up first win for Romano

Redford Union’s Panthers never stood a chance against a determined Tecumseh varsity football squad on Thursday, Sept. 1, with the visiting Indians controlling the non-conference contest all evening for a big 61-14 victory.
The Indians put on a dominating performance to give their new head coach Al Romano his first victory. Tecumseh finished the first quarter up 21-0 and built a huge 42-8 lead to end the opening half.
“It felt good,” said Romano with a beaming smile on his face after the win. “I’m just happy that we came out and played like this. They put it away pretty early and then in the second half they still played hard.”
Tecumseh was able to send in its backup quarterback, Spencer Adams, to start the second half. The Indians added 13 points in the third quarter and after allowing the Panthers their final touchdown, went to the final quarter with a 55-14 lead.
Starting quarterback Brad Vannatter scampered into the end zone twice in the opening half while Adams crossed the goal line once in the second half for the Indians. Also scoring touchdowns for Tecumseh were Austin Shartle, Kyle Bryan, John Terry (3) and Carl Koyle.
Casey Hunt connected on 7-of-8 Point After Touchdown kicks for the Indians. His kickoffs set the ball deep in Panther territory several times during the evening to give the Indians’ defense extra advantage.
“Casey Hunt’s doing a heck of a job,” said Romano. “And he’s kicking it where we ask him too. Not everybody realizes that. He’s punting better every week.”
The Indians rushed for a total of 378 yards. Ninety-seven of which belonged to Vannatter. The Indians’ senior quarterback threw for another 140-yards.
Redford Union was limited to only 63 yards rushing and 33 yards from passing.
Tecumseh heads to Monroe on Friday, Sept. 9, for Game 3 of the season with an even overall record of 1-1.
“I’ve played Monroe forever,” said Romano. “They’re always physical and are always bigger than you. They’re tough and have speed too. They’ve got it all. But, I’m looking forward to it because it’ll be a great test for us.”
See next Thursday’s Tecumseh Herald for complete results.

I think it is
Important to NOTE that Redford has 19 players on its team!! YES a WIN is a WIN but lets make sure to note who we are beating.
Seriously, do you ever have
Seriously, do you ever have anything positive to say? Athletes read this site and it is shameful that people feel the need to bash everything about TPS....I am so over the negativity and disgusted when people feel the need to minimize a success. Let the kids feel proud and supported by the community!
19 or 49...who cares?
Yes, RU had 19 players. Last year we had 28 and still got the crap kicked out of us...regularly. Ypsi High is dressing 18 players on varsity this year and you can bet they'll be some of the best athletes in the league... If RU has 19 and we beat them 61-14, and Ypsi only has 18, does that garuntee a victory with an even greater points margin? Uh...I'm thinking not.
It's not always about numbers, even though a larger team obviously provides more options. The RU team played with heart, I saw that myself...but we played well too and it's unfair to disparage this win.
thanks Mike

Dangerwillrobinson its
Dangerwillrobinson its obvious form you previous posts on the Indians start new season article that you have an ax to grind with the administration at TPS. There you posted “Test scores aren't the only indicator of a healthy district”. Well that may be true. But a healthy district also needs responsible Adults to support the students / athletes. Not more cancer such as yourself eating away at the morale of the team, students and community. If you have a problem with the administration fine, but let them enjoy the win.

And I think this video clip/interview after the game is GREAT! Keep it up Mickey, it's nice to get a "live" look into the team!
