Patriots beat Madison 37-6

Britton Deerfield’s varsity football team took another step towards advancing to post season play. The Patriots (3-3 overall, 2-2 Tri-County Conference) defeated Madison 37-6 on Friday, Sept. 28, and need to win their final three regular season games to secure a spot in the playoffs.“This was the first game of a four week schedule, I told the kids. Now we have three games left with no room for error. Summerfield next week will be a great matchup as it’s always a hard-hitting contest. We have no options, we must win,” said BD coach DJ Lutz. The Patriots took a 16-0 lead in the opening quarter but allowed the Trojans a touchdown in the second quarter on a broken pass play.“Other than that, the defense once again did a great job putting us in position to win the game,” said Lutz. The Patriots finished the game scoring touchdowns in the remaining three quarters to secure the TCC victory.Leighton Merritt rushed 18 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns while Josh Reau had four carries for 12 yards and a touchdown.Nate Hoffman completed seven of 14 passes for 110 yards while Eric Burnor had two catches 43 yards.Recording tackles for BD were Jordan Osbun (14), Josh Reau (14), Quest Gonzales (6), Cody Meinert (8, 1 interception), and Trent Swindeman (5).
