CHARLES R. LEWIS

Charles R. Lewis, age 88, of Tecumseh, passed away the evening of January 16, 2012 at Lenawee Medical Care Facility with loving family at his side. Charles was the son of Roy and Lileth (Hall) Lewis born February 3, 1923 in Seneca, Michigan. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1940 and attended Purdue University while serving in the military.

Charles served as a combat infantryman in both France and Germany in the 102nd Infantry Division during WWII. He worked for Tecumseh Products Company for 44 years until his retirement.

March 20th of 1946, Charles married Mary Belle Fillion in Whiteford Center. She preceded him in death in October of 1959. He was remarried to Virginia Watson July 4, 1968 in Brooklyn. She also preceded him in death in 2000.

Mr. Lewis is survived by six children, Bill (Corrine) Watson of Jackson; Nancy (Tom) Wegner of Adrian; Lana Staley of Pointe Place, Ohio; Stan (Peggy) Lewis of Tecumseh; Denny (Nancy) Lewis of Canton and Roger (Jody) Watson of Jackson. In addition to his children, he is survived by 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wives and his brother, Loyal Lewis.

Although Charlie had loved bowling and playing cards with his many friends, he loved nothing more than activities with his large extended family. He was kind and caring and loved kids. He served his community's youth with his involvement in his younger years with both little league baseball and the Boy Scouts. He positively affected the lives of many young people.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Pastor Gary Leking officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Michigan Army National Guard Honor Guard Team.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the caring staff at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility for the care and comfort they provided to our father and the support they provided to us. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee Medical Care Facility.
