Manwaring explains statements regarding pool millage vote

To the Editor,

I was born and raised in Tecumseh for my first 20 years. My grandparents had lived there since around 1920. As recently as less than two years ago, I paid Tecumseh and Township property taxes. My ashes may someday rest at Brookside. I consider Tecumseh my “hometown,” even though I have not resided there permanently for 46 years. I have been “in town” every year for 66 years. I have followed happenings there all my life. I still visit businesses and golf there three to four times a week for eight months a year. I care about Tecumseh, its past, small town traditions and future.

My letter last week about the pool millage did not address any particular person. I am not a “buddy” of any serial complainer. I never said that whiners have no right to voice their opinion or to complain about everything. That’s their First Amendment right, and I always support the Constitution! It just seems such a sad life to lead, with nothing better to do but complain locally about everything. Some people are “so sick and tired” of everything that is not their ideal, it’s amazing they still have the energy to go on complaining.

I did not tell people they “have to move out” to avoid paying this onerous five cents a day pool tax. I stated there are many ways in a free society people can still improve their lot. I offered that people who chose not to get more education for a higher paying job could “consider moving to a different area with less assets to pay for” as a way to avoid additional taxes they say they cannot afford. I also stated “In a free society... people are allowed to move to other areas.”

I also pay the same $100 a month for Medicare coverage as one whiner. That’s the program desperately in need of fixing to assure it remains in some form. However, Liberals do not want to improve its outlook. Liberals continually call any Conservative plan to change that program a terrible scheme, yet faced with the fact that it cannot be sustained, they offer no alternative, nor do they even attempt to say what they would propose! So, get ready for your Medicare to cost much more very soon, unless you decide to vote for reason and freedom, instead of re-voting for Socialism or Communism.

I did not call any complainer “greedy.” I did say that some whiners are “selfish,” especially those who ask and expect others such as me, a stranger, or Mr. McAran, or the rest of Tecumseh taxpayers to pay their Democratically voted tax bill because they do not want to, or they do not think it is “fair.”

I didn’t accuse any whiner of getting a handout. I stated “But if they fail” (to adequately provide for themselves in retirement, or in daily living) “then they are the first to look to their neighbors (government) for a handout!” So, here’s a complainer asking someone else to pay her five-cent per day tax bill. I call that looking for a handout.

I know everyone has to buy groceries, and most depend on gasoline to run cars, gas, oil and electricity for their homes, etc. All are rising in price due to one man’s failure to lead as elected, and who has cheered as gas prices have more than doubled under his care. So, when whiners complain they have no extra money for a community asset because of rising prices, it would seem they would have plenty if the price of gas were to return to an easily reachable $2.50 a gallon. Groceries keep going up 10 to 20 percent a year, mostly due to oil prices, and the use of food crops for ethanol! One could easily save $18 per week by getting rid of Mr. Obama’s non-leadership! There’s a free, valuable money-saving tip!

People better start growing algae in their back yard ponds (if zoning allows!), because that’s what the President says is the next available new fuel for cars and jets to run on. The U.S. has enough oil and gas reserves to keep us going at least for the next 200 to 300 years! We just have to get it out of the ground. It is a natural resource, and readily available. The U.S. has at least 50 percent of the world’s oil reserves! A far cry from the two percent Obama claims and lies about.

So, it would seem complaints are being addressed to the wrong people! Why not try complaining to Obama, Levin, and Stabenow, the people who could do something about the high cost of living, but simply refuse.
