Tribe wins Blissfield tourney

Rain changed the Round Robin format at Blissfield’s Lena’s Pizza Tournament on Saturday, April 14, where Tecumseh’s Indians went 2-0 to pick up the title.

Four teams participated and the two winners of game one met in the championship while the two losers faced off in a consolation division.

Tecumseh beat Southgate Anderson 5-2 in game one while Blissfield defeated Bay City Central 4-2 to set up the final between the Indians and the Royals in the final.

Phil Carey earned the win in game one (7ip, 6 hits, 5 K's, 1 BB).

Jacob Britt led Tecumseh’s offense, going 2-for-2 with an RBI double. Nick Cowen also recorded a double for the Indians.

Nick Cowen picked up the 3-1win against the Royals, throwing four innings (3 hits, 3 K's, 3 BB, 1 earned run). Eric Eldred recorded a save after three innings of work (3ip, 1 hit, 2 K's, 3 BB).

Michael Skelton (2-3, 2 RBI) led Tecumseh’s offense. Also adding a hit each were Eldred and Cowen.

Tecumseh (4-1, 0-1 SEC) followed with a 7-5 Southeastern Conference loss at Saline on Monday. The second game of the doubleheader was called in the bottom of the fourth inning due to darkness with Tecumseh down 15-10.

Britt recorded the pitching loss, throwing six innings and giving up seven hits, four earned runs, four walks and striking out three.

Powell (2-3, double, 2 RBI), Britt (2-4, double, 2 RBI) and Brad Vannatter (2-4) led Tecumseh’s offense.

In their season opener at home on Wednesday, April 11, the Indians swept the Wildcats with wins of 3-0 and 3-1.

Jacob Britt pitched the first six innings, giving up just one hit while striking out 11 for the win. Nick Cowen recorded a save, pitching one inning and striking out two.

The Indians recorded just four hits in the game with Michael Skelton tagging a pair of singles, Eric Eldred hitting a RBI single and Cowen producing a RBI double.

Phil Carey pitched the first four innings and gave up no hits while striking out seven and walking one. Eldred went in on relief for the last three innings and picked up the win (2 hits, 3 KO’s, 1 walk).

Jared Powell recorded two hits (1 RBI) while Skelton (2 RBI) Max Patterson, Brad Vannatter, and Spencer Adams each added one hit.

The Indians were scheduled to play at Jackson Northwest on Wednesday. Results from the contest will be in next week’s Herald.
