The Tecumseh Downtown Development Authority, the Tecumseh District Library and the Tecumseh Center for the Arts are combining two things close to my heart--poetry and sculpture.
In honor of National Poetry Month, which is in April, and to celebrate the vibrant sculptures that have been in Tecumseh for a while, a poetry contest is being held. The poems must be inspired by the sculptures that are on Art Trail Tecumseh, but anyone can submit poems and there are categories for children and adults.
I think this is a wonderful way to celebrate the arts in this community. Sculpture is poetry and crafting a poem is like creating a sculpture. To paraphrase Annie Dillard's analogy in her book The Writing Life, she says a line will drop from the sky and the poet must chisel around it to create a work of art.
See the attached flier for submission guidelines.
