An attempt to recall four members of the Tecumseh School Board was begun on Monday afternoon when Tecumseh resident Dave Govro visited the Lenawee County Clerk’s office to secure paperwork and information about a recall petition. Govro also is one of the Tecumseh Public Schools staff members, a computer technician, who lost his job in Monday’s cuts.
Govro is targeting board members Louis Englund, Dan Gunder, Karen Januszek, and Kevin Packard, citing their support of the new athletic complex being constructed at Tecumseh High School. He believes the move brought unwarranted expenditures on the district after a public vote on the issue failed. Govro said he took Urban’s name off the list when he resigned at Monday night’s meeting, and stated at least he had the courage to stand up for his convictions. Board President Debbie Johnson-Berges will preside at her final meeting on June 29, and newly elected board member Jimmie Rice will take his seat in July.
Signatures from 25 percent of the voters from the last gubernatorial election would be required for a recall position. Govro hopes to submit paperwork to the County Clerk for language approval by the end of the week.
