Bulldogs dash past Redskin boys

Clinton claimed five first places during its Thursday, May 1, varsity boys track meet with visiting Morenci but lost by a score of 93-59.

Two of the Redskins' athletes earned a pair of first places with Spencer Krauss winning both the shot put and discus while Rick Smith placed first in the high jump and 400-meter dash. Krauss earned first in the shot put with a throw of 46'6” and first in discus with a toss of 153'8”. Smith leapt 5'10 for first in the high jump and ran a time of 54.2 to finish just ahead of the Bulldogs in the 400-meter dash.

Clinton sophomore Kenny Cooper won the 3200-meter run in a time of 11:28 and finished second in the 1600-meter run in 5:12. Aaron Newsted also placed second for the 'Skins in the long jump (17'1”) and finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.2). Ryan Reineck placed second in the 200-meter dash (24.9) and was fourth in the 400-meter dash (56.9).

Kyle Bevier placed third in the long jump (16'10” while Chet Albee was third in both the shot put (36'6”) and discus (1`05'5”). Tyler Bevier finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (50.1) while Steve Kurowicki was third in the 800-meter run (2:35).

Fourth places were recorded by Clinton's Jody Gerber, in the high jump (5'2”); Aaron Tice, in the shot put (35'2”) and discus (102'3”), Jeremy Levi, in the 110-meter hurdles (20.9), Kevin Reineck, in the 300-meter hurdles (56.9), Desmond DeGood, in the 800-meter run (3:17) and Matt Kurowicki, in the 3200-meter run (14:57).

At the Stockbridge Invitational on Friday, May 2, Clinton finished 10th out of 15 teams with 21 points. Williamston won the meet and was followed by Albion.

Krauss was the only Clinton athlete to place first in the event. He placed first in both the shot put (47'10”) and discus (154'6”). Smith finished fifth in the high jump (5'8”) and placed eighth in the 400-meter dash (54.3). Steve Kurowicki improved his best time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.4 and ran a time of 26.2 in the 200-meter dash.
In its previous meet at home against Britton-Deerfield on Tuesday, April 29, Clinton won 88-64 with 19 Redskin athletes scoring points.

Krauss placed first in both the shot put (44'9”) and discus (139'8”) while Jody Gerber finished first in the long jump (17'9”). Reineck placed first in the 200-meter dash (25.7) and was third in the 400-meter dash (56.2) while Smith was first in the 110-meter hurdles (19.6) and the 400-meter dash (55.3). He also finished second in the high jump (5'10”).
Two of Clinton's relay teams placed first including its 400-meter relay team of Kyle Bevier, Alan Kurtz, Davey Penterics and Tyler Bevier, and its 800-meter relay team of Gerber, Newsted, Steve Kurowicki and Forrest Griffin.

Tyler Bevier also placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.6) and the 300-meter hurdles (51.7) and finished third in the long jump (17'4”).

Clinton's Nick Varney placed second in the 110-hurdles (22.3) and was third in the 300-meter hurdles (51.7); Kenny Cooper was second in the 1600-meter run (5:16) and the 3200-meter run (11:30); and Steve Kurowicki was second in the 800-meter run (2:34); Albee took second in discus (104'3”) and shot put (36'4”).

Additional third places came from Clinton's Newsted in the 100-meter dash (12.9) and the 200-meter dash (26.0) and Sean Wagner in the 110-meter hurdles (22.4).
B-D had two double winners as Matt Rau won both the 1600-meter run (4:54) and the 800-meter run (2:18.9). Aaron Wielfaert won both the high jump  (6'2”) and the 300-meter hurdles 43.8).  Other firsts came from Braxton Collins in the 3200-meter run (11:02) and Brady Southward in the 100-meter dash (12.5).  B-D's 3200-meter and 1600-meter relay teams were also winners.

Wielfaert placed second in the long jump as did R.J. Pickell in both the shot put and the discus. Brady Southward placed second for B-D in the 400-meter and 200-meter dashes.
Third places came from B-D's Jared Pirkle in the high jump, Raymond Root in both the 16000-meter and 800-meter runs and Landon Forche in the 3200-meter run.

B-D is now 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the Tri-county conference.
