B-D splits own tourney

Britton-Deerfield opened its baseball tournament at Deerfield on Saturday, May, 10, with a 16-5 mercy ruled win against Waldron but lost 8-1 to Summit Academy to end the day.

Jason Case won the opener for B-D after pitching all five innings. He allowed five hits and walked one while striking out five.

B-D's Mike Burman, Mike Smith and Justin Holubik each had multiple hits and scored runs for the win.

Burman was handed the pitching loss against Summit Academy. He pitched six innings, allowed six hits and walked two while striking out eight.

Paden Sampsel and Brandon Keller recorded B-D's only hits in the game.

The other half of the tournament was played out at Britton High School where Madison opened with a 10-0 loss to Dundee and then finished its day with a 15-4 loss against Manchester.

Just the day before, Friday, May 9, B-D lost 7-4 at Madison.

Madison benefited from a couple early errors in the first inning to score four unearned runs.

Brandon Keller pitched six innings for B-D and gave up five hits and six walks while striking out 11.

B-D was led offensively by Matt Bailey and Brandon Keller who each had two hits and scored runs.

Chase Mann led Madison, going 2-for-4 at the plate and also earning the win on the mound.

B-D lost 7-4 against Clinton on Monday.

Case took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing eight hits, seven runs (six earned), three walks while striking out four. Brandon Keller pitched the sixth inning and hit a batter.

Offensively, B-D was led by Cameron Taylor and Case who each had two hits. Keller had a double while Holubik scored two runs.

BD is now 2-14 overall and 1-9 in the Tri-County Conference.
