Tecumseh City Council adopted the 2017-18 fiscal year budget at Monday’s meeting in a unanimous vote that leaves the millage rate unchanged at 14.39 mills and provides $5,395,243 in revenues, an increase from last year’s budget of $154,371.

A reimbursement of $199,000 to the city of Tecumseh for 2016 will be made by the State of Michigan Department of Treasury, which is required to replace local government revenues lost when personal property from manufacturers became exempt.

Tecumseh City Council held a public hearing on Monday for a proposed brownfield site at the former Tecumseh Products property to help fund a projected $76.5 million environmental cleanup project.

Tecumseh City Manager Dan Swallow informed city council on Monday that the closing sale of the former Tecumseh Products property is pending legal paperwork. Swallow said covenants and restrictions are being worked out after the Department of Environmental Quality raised additional requirements.

Tecumseh City Council unanimously approved the 2016-17 proposed budget at its May 2 meeting. Total proposed general fund revenues for the city totaled $5,240,872, while total general fund expenditures equaled $5,157,519.
