The Dollar General store at 515 N. Evans St. reopened over the weekend, seven months after an arsonist set fire to a stack of toilet paper in the store and caused damages amounting to an estimated $1 million to the structure and contents, according to reports immediately after the fire.

The recent 6,300-square-foot expansion of DiggyPOD, the print on demand book publishing company at 301 Industrial Dr., will make for another kind of expansion that will allow the business to print additional book sizes as well as large color posters.

Being blind or having a vision impairment makes doing everyday tasks a complicated affair. But thanks to a free smartphone app called Be My Eyes, each day sighted volunteers lend their vision to solve tasks to help visually impaired people lead more independent lives.

Superintendent Rick Hilderley has disciplined Tecumseh Public Schools’ (TPS) athletic director, Jon Zajac, following an independent investigation. Zajac had been on paid non-disciplinary leave since Monday, Nov. 30.

There’s a new restaurant in town at 1410 W. Chicago Blvd. in Tecumseh Plaza, and owners Marcos and Maria Garcia hope Peppers Mexican Grill becomes part of the Tecumseh community. Opened December 21, the restaurant is another step in the business journey for the Garcias.

The Tecumseh Police Department is mourning the loss of a 23-year veteran of the force after Sergeant Darrin Lee Briggs, 45, of Jerome, passed away Monday, Dec. 14 during a tree-cutting accident at his home.
