One of them is always putting a good game up. But we’re always fighting for that fifth bowler and are juggling two back and forth right now. We’re waiting to see, but we’re very excited.”

Adrian College’s Merillat Sport and Fitness Center was the location for the annual Lenawee County All-Star Wrestling Tournament on Friday, Jan. 27, where Tecumseh’s varsity wrestlers picked up two championships.
Division 2 No. 3-ranked Tecumseh led the county with 11 selections and two alternates while Division 4 No 1-ranked Hudson had 10. Addison and Adrian each had eight wrestlers while Sand Creek had seven.
“We were really happy to have the number of guys in the tournament that we had,” said Tecumseh coach Tony Greathouse. “It’s a good sign of the depth we have as a program.”
Last year’s 135-pound champion Ronnie Bechtol of Tecumseh placed first at 140-pounds by defeating Hudson’s Luke Sparapani 5-3.
Bechtol (27-8) was pleased with how he handled his opponent and said, “It was pretty exciting because it was a good match. I felt like I wrestled solid and I’m glad that I didn’t make any stupid mistakes.”
His plans are to cut off some weight and go all in for the 135-pound state title. He qualified but didn’t place last year and finished fourth at state his sophomore season, using the same battle plan of dropping a weight class. He said he was currently ranked No. 8 at 140 but, “I’m going 35 in the post season so nothing matters.”
“I’m proud of him that he’s doing that because he’s trying to win a state title as a senior, he wants to go out in style and place as high as he can,” said Greathouse of Bechtol’s decision.
The Indians earned its other county title with Chase Lewis pinning Hudson’s Issac Dusseau in 29 seconds of the 112-pound championship final. Lewis scored first period falls in both matches.
