Writing to the editor of the Tecumseh Herald is something I have never done before, however, I felt it was necessary in order to publicly thank two individuals for their unexpected kindness. The “paying it forward” spirit is alive and well in Tecumseh, and here are two examples.

The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC) failed to achieve partisan fairness in its adopted maps for Michigan’s state House, Senate and congressional districts, according to Promote the Vote’s just-completed study of the MICRC’s own analysis.

On January 10, the Red Cross declared its first-ever National Blood Crisis. Severe blood shortages are greatly impacting the medical community. Blood donation has always been necessary in order to sustain day-to-day medical procedures, treatments and other health needs.

State lawmakers are sitting on an extraordinary amount of cash right now. Between federal government transfers to the state budget — financed by the national debt — and unexpectedly strong state tax collections, policymakers have at least $11 billion sitting around.

That the millions of dollars being spent on Project Phoenix doesn’t include a tribute to veterans is a real shame. Do the only right thing that matters first. There are plenty of places to play baseball because of these sacrifices.

The holiday season is coming to an end, and our hearts and minds have been receptive to those in need. We contributed, volunteered and remembered those less fortunate. This is heart-warming, especially during a difficult time.

Happy New Year! Like most people, I am excited to wish 2021 a farewell and welcome 2022. We are very excited at “Your” Lenawee Community Foundation. I have served as President and CEO for 17 months now and I am very excited about the future of the foundation and our community.
