August Christian Stolte Jr.

August Christian Stolte Jr., age 98, of Tecumseh, Mich. passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at his home. He was born on December 2, 1923 in Hamtramck, Mich., a son of the late August Christian and Frieda Lena (Kirsch) Stolte. On January 25, 1947 in Detroit, he married Joyce Esther Farrell and they shared 69 years together before her passing in 2016.

August proudly served his country during WWII while serving in the U.S. Army as a corporal. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for many years. August loved playing and coaching sports and during his time in the Army he played baseball. He also loved square dancing with his wife, working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles and collecting coins and stamps.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Daugherty of West Bloomfield, Mich. and Kay (Robert) Luck of Franklin, Wis.; three grandchildren, Kevin (Angela) Daugherty, Christopher (Kelly) Daugherty and Erin (Luke) Rasmussen; one great-grandson, Ben Rasmussen; and a brother-in-law, Harry Farrell of Arizona. Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Luck; brother, Jack Suddarth; sister, Jill Hickner; and son-in-law, Paul Daugherty.

Visitation for August was held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 1-2 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A funeral service followed at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ted Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and VFW Post #4187. Memorial contributions may be made to Neighbors of Hope Women and Children’s Ministry, Millie Schembechler Adrenal Cancer Fund, American Lung Association and charity of your choice.
