Barbara J. Young

Barbara Jean Young, age 87 of Tecumseh passed away on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023 at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh. She was born March 17, 1935 in Hillsdale, a daughter of the late Henry W. and Leona R. (Tuckerman) Meyer. On June 12, 1954 in Adrian, she married Lawrence Young and they shared 58 years together until his passing on July 10, 2012.

Barbara graduated from Adrian High School in 1952. She continued her education at the University of Michigan, later transferring to Adrian College, and received her bachelors from Siena Heights College in Adrian. She retired as an auditor from United Bank and Trust in Tecumseh. Barbara attended the Raisin Valley Friends Church in Adrian and was a member of the Adrian BPW. She enjoyed crocheting and made a lot of blankets for family and friends. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Jan (Dennis) Fry of Britton and Amy (Steve) Million of Adrian; daughter-in-law, Marlene Young of Adrian; brother, Thomas (Jeanette) Meyer of Tecumseh, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren with one on the way and eight step great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey and a sister, Kathleen Schultz.

Visitation was from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes.  Funeral services followed at 1 p.m. with Pastor Doug Chandler officiating.
