Charles J. Lauer

Charles J. Lauer, 89, of Tecumseh, passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022 at Brightside Nursing Home, Jackson, Mich. Charlie was born on December 29, 1932 in Fryburg, Penn., the son of Edward and Christina (Guth) Lauer, the youngest of 13 children.  On August 1, 1953 he married Joan E. Tinney and she preceded him in death on July 8, 1996. On February 14, 2000 Charlie was united in marriage to Sally (Jentzen-Marry) in Hawaii and she preceded him in death on January 17, 2020.

As a young man Charlie left Pennsylvania and traveled to Michigan for work. In 1953 Charlie began what was his lifelong career with Tecumseh Products Company. Working his way up through the company he was named the manager of manufacturing in January of 1981 and retired in 1988 just shy of 35 years of service with the company. Charlie spent his retirement golfing, traveling, watching sports and gathering a VERY large collection of golf balls. He was proud of his immaculate lawn and beautiful flowers. He loved traveling to Hawaii and Florida in the winter and driving to Nebraska to see some of his grandkids.  Charlie was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and held various volunteer positions as well as serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Charlie is survived by two step-daughters, Robin (late Richard) Wegener of Lindsay, Neb. and Tammy Bonner of Hanover, Mich. Charlie was blessed to have watched four grandchildren grow up and survive him, Chisum Volk (Ashley) of Pine Bluffs, Wy.; Adam (Kayleigh) Bonner of Hudson; and Wyatt and MarryRita Wegener of Lindsay, Neb.  Charlie is also survived by a sister-in-law, Patricia (Dale) Heselschwerdt of Napoleon, and numerous nieces, nephews and great- nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh, with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating. Visitation will be from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Southern Care Hospice, 1965 Boardman Rd., Jackson, MI, 49202; or St. Elizabeth Church, 506 Union St., Tecumseh, MI 49286.
