Dan S. Root

Dan S. Root passed away peacefully on December 23, 2021, at Evangelical Home in Saline at the age of 67, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on April 16, 1954, in Detroit, the son of Dan Sidney and Margery (Garvey) Root. 

 
Dan graduated from North Farmington High School in 1972. While in school, Dan was very involved in the Boy Scouts with his father and other siblings. Dan started his career in one of his passions and became a chef working for Farmington Hills Meadowbrook Country Club for several years. He then moved on to his real love of driving truck for many years and traveling the nation, and finally retiring in 1993.  

Dan believed in family. He assisted in taking care of his parents as they aged and provided assistance when needed. He also loved watching his niece and all of his nephews grow and develop into adults. He was so proud of all their accomplishments they obtained throughout the years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and loved visiting many restaurants in Tecumseh and the surrounding area, but his favorite was Tuckey’s Big Boy.  

Dan is survived by his siblings, Larry (Joan) of Kalamazoo; Don of Ottawa Hills, Ohio; Mary Ellen (Dan) Pizana of Saline; Mike (Sue) of Havre de Grace, Md.; and Patrick (Pam) of Santa Fe, Texas. He is also survived by his only niece, Shawna (Joey) Blackmer and seven nephews, Jacob Root, Alex Pizana, Tyler (Sara) Root, Justin and Joe Root, Matthew and Eric Root and two great nieces, Hailey Root and Cecelia Blackmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Margery Root.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh, Mich. from 4 – 7 p.m. with a Rosary Prayer Service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Wheeler as Celebrant. Rite of Committal followed at Ridgeway Cemetery.
